As I say, once you fall for this band - you fall hard and it won't be long before you're digging for everything this incredible band put out :) And I wouldn't have it any other way.

One of the main reasons to be proud to be Scottish.. Persephone is my particular favourite. It takes someone with real soul/feeling to let their voice go and not come off like a pointless Mariah Carey showoff.

How can Will Heggie > Simon Raymonde? I can see where that might be your opinion if you enjoy the very early work the most, but Simon played on the band's most renowned releases, so to make such a firm statement seems a little wacky. As Otherness noted below, Simon contributed a ton to the sound of the CT. I think it's safe to say Simon was probably the most grounded and level-headed member of the band - we very well might have never gotten such greatness if he wasn't there.

Woofit found the following anonymous writing on a discarded piece of paper at the side of a Tarmacian mega highway. Woofit suspects that it is the work of one of the many car addicts (an estimated 5 million) that permanently travel the highways of Tarmac in search of the fabled and illusive open road. I travel along the endless mega highways of Tarmac. Encased within my vehicle. Continuously in motion. The world outside a constant blur. I can never stop.

Will's basslines were much more interesting, but Simon wasn't just a bass player in the band -- his contributed to many other elements of the music. I've also read that sometimes Simon and Robin switched instruments. We'll probably never know who exactly did what (well, we can be pretty sure neither of the guys did any vocals), so it's better to think of the Cocteaus' music as a collaborative effort and not just a sum of guitar, bass and voice with some drum machine and the occasional synthetiser thrown in. Oh, and for the record, I remember reading that since Robin wasn't exactly in top shape around 1990, Simon's contributions are exceptionally big on "Heaven or Las Vegas".

Odd that Lowlife ain't in the similar artists...they were often like a downcast, masculine version of Cocteau Twins, only a lot less unintelligible; earthier, if you will -

Re "Twinlights": I agree with ativke, I prefer the acoustic versions of both "Half-Gifts" and "Rilkean Heart", but holy shit, the original version "Pink Orange Red" is heaven on earth. As for "Milk & Kisses", the first two tracks are gorgeous and so's the last one, but most of the stuff inbetween is a bit too unremarkable for me. Still, it's in no way a bad album, just not the side of the Cocteaus I like the most. As a sidenote, the "Otherness" remix of "Violaine" blows my mind.

I want to say that every track on Twinlights is better than its studio version, but the electric guitar on Pink Orange Red is simply MEANT TO BE.

@SoRuthless Yep, I love Twinlights. I even like the acoustic version of Half-Gifts more than the one on M&K.

@YControl755, Seekers Who Are Lovers is amazing! have you listened to the Twinlights EP?? Half-Gifts and Rilkean Heart are amazing in that EP, its done acoustically, which is radically different than most of their stuff, but its a softer version of those two tunes. the Otherness EP is done incredibly too. Seekers Who Are Lovers and Violaine are done in another way as well. its not as soft as Twinlights, but its nonetheless lovely.
