Banda de rock originaria de Maryland, al este de U.S.A., formada por cinco músicos como la copa de un pino; Neil Fallon (voz, guitarra), Tim Sult (guitarra), Dan Maines (bajo), Jean Paul Gaster (batería) y Mick Schauer (órgano). Su estilo varía según los años de publicación de sus trabajos, desde los primeros tiempos en los que se identificaban más con el hardcore y el metal, pasando por estilos mas cercanos al hard rock, un gran toque stoner y pinceladas de southern rock… , pero siempre con esa fuerza, austeridad y sentido del humor que caracterizan a Clutch; riffs electrizantes, bases rítmicas muy elaboradas, hipnóticas en muchos momentos, una voz grave y potente y letras llenas de ingenio y humor son algunos de los elementos que siempre encontraremos en los trabajos de estos genios.
Comenzaron su andadura a finales de los 80 pero no fue hasta octubre del año1991 cuando apareció su primer disco “Pitchfork” del que se editaron unas pocas copias en vinilo e incluía 4 temas. Le siguieron “Passive restraints” en 1992, “Transnational speedway league: anthems, anecdotes and undeniable truths” en 1993, “Clutch” en 1995, “Ímpetus” en 1997 (reedición de “Pitchfork” mas dos temas extras), “The elefant riders” en el 1998, “Jam room” en 1999, “Pure rock fury” del 2001, “Slow hole to China” en 2003, “Blast tyrant” del 2004 y “Robot hive/ Exodus” en 2005.
