  • music saved my soul

    6 Sep 2009, 13:56 de Cruelguy

    hey there.

    EscucharAppetite (for lightin' dynamite)

eigentlich wollte ich mich jetzt ergehen... über einen künstler, der mich in diesen tagen unterstützt hat. Der mich oben gehalten hat... Mein persönlicher "sound of summer".

    Citizen Cope
    The Clarence Greenwood Recordings
    Every Waking Moment

    always looking for GREAT music!!!

  • Citizen Cope & Alice Smith's No Show.

    3 Mar 2009, 16:27 de mathewjordan

Fri 27 Feb – Citizen Cope

Having gotten off work right at 5:00, I raced home to walk the dog before my friends Amie and Alan met me at the house. We got on the road and I soon realized I had forgotten to print out my ticket, so we headed to Amie’s to do some printing. Alan waited in the car and we ran upstairs. While finagling the printer, Amie made a Black and Tan with Guinness and Smithwicks, while I downed the remainder of my Johnnie Walker Black, and drank down a Peroni (Italian beer). Needless to say, we were getting off to a good foot.

The three hour car ride consisted of of Montreal, CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy), Rilo Kiley and some of Amie’s mountain music as she called it. The way she described it, it was a band of a couple of hairy lesbians playing country guitars, they sounded great. Amie had to release the demons, so we stopped on the side of the highway and for some odd reason she thought it would be smart to piss behind the car rather than on the side of it.

We arrived in Asheville at the Orange Peel, a wonderful venue, to find an unknown band playing and they remain unknown. There was a female lead singer and single male guitarist. I grabbed a beer (Sweetwater 420) and was walking back to meet Amie and Alan when I ran into Lacey and Hannah. For the next hour, I drank a combination of Sweetwater, Magic Hat #9, and Bad Penny’s, waiting for either Citizen Cope or Alice Smith to walk out. Finally Cope came out and opened, I remember that he played EscucharBrother Lee second and I think he opened with EscucharJohn Lennon, but don’t hold me to it. The entire show consisted of me thinking, “maybe this is the song that Alice Smith comes out and blows my mind”. She never did.

    Positives
Bullet and a Target was simply amazing and was about the only song where everyone was dancing. He did a nice job of mixing up the albums, and never seemed to play any one style concurrently. I nearly melted when hearing Pablo Picasso but was disappointed that it was not immediately followed by My Way Home as those songs are joined at the hip. Let The Drumer Kick was exceptionally well played.

    Negatives
A horn section would have been nice that way I could of heard EscucharAwe in it’s unique beauty. I also wish Santana would of walked out for Son's Gonna Rise, ha.

A good show overall, perhaps I would of enjoyed myself more if I had not set such high expectations in wanting to actually see the person (Alice Smith) I paid to see play. But alas, I walked away with tipsy body and with a free sampler CD of hers.

  • A-Z of songs.. just for my own amusement

    24 Ene 2009, 12:43 de BrightStarHope

Go through your ITunes, WMP, etc. and sort all songs by alphabet and pick your favorite song for each letter and why. OR do the short version and tell the most played song from that letter:

Punctuation: (Don't Fear) The Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult
A classic. Awesome guitar solo in the middle.

    Number: 19-2000 (Soulchild Remix) -Gorillaz
I will start with a nice happy song and this is one of the happiest songs I know and love.

A: Anthem Of Our Dying Day - Story of the Year
A bit of screamo used nice and sparingly gives this song the impression of raw emotion.

B: Best of You - Foo Fighters
The live version of this song is my ringtone.

C: Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers
One of my favourite intros to a song from one of my favourite bands.

    D: Don't Stop believing - Journey
    Classic.

    E: Epiphany - Bad Religion
"All that's benign corrupts in time"

    F: Feeling a Moment - Feeder
I feel this band is underrated. I recently bought Feeder - The Singles and every song was incredible.

G: (The) Good Left Undone - Rise Against
They have a pure rock sound.

    H: Hotel California - Eagles
    Nice slow classic.

I: Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Great memories listening to this song with somebody special.

    J: Jesus - Brand New
Great song from a great band.

K: Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
No other song should be at k. This song gets me pumped and epitomises all that is good about nu-metal.

L: Let the Drummer Kick - Citizen Cope
Great mellow song. Simple yet mesmerising.

M: My Way - Frank Sinatra
    Legendary song. Great lyrics.

    N: November Rain - Guns N' Roses
    Great solo.

O: Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't - Brand New
    "I am heaven sent
    Don't you dare forget"

    P: Point/Counterpoint - Streetlight Manifesto
Blows my mind every time I hear it.

Q: (The) Question is what is the Question - Scooter
    Nice fun song.

    R: Run - Snow Patrol
Very emotional song. Best version of that song too.

    S: Snuff - Slipknot
I didn't think they were capable of being this soft.
"And love is just a camouflage
    For what resembles rage again"

    T: Tangerine - Led Zeppelin
No list is complete without them.

U: Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Deep song about drug addiction.

V: Venus to Vertigo - Wonderfool
Great band. Great song. This band needs more publicity because they are amazing but so many people haven't heard of them.

W: Wish you were Here - Pink Floyd
    Powerful stuff.

    X: X - Xzibit
I didn't have many songs starting with X to choose from. It has a good beat.

Y: You Look Like I need A Drink - Against Me!
Best title to a song I've ever heard. Not so effective as a chat-up line though.

    Z: Zero - Hawk Nelson
    Deep song about suicide.
