Su verdadero nombre es Christopher Geppert. Su composición más conocida es «Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)» para la película Arthur protagonizada por Dudley Moore y Liza Minnelli. La canción ganó el Oscar en 1981 (premio compartido con Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager y Peter Allen).
Cross tocaba con un grupo de Austin llamado Flash antes de firmar un contrato con Warner Bros, gracias al cual publicó un primer álbum llamado Christopher Cross en 1979 por el cual ganó 5 premios Grammy. Recibió en una misma gala los 4 premios principales que son: Mejor Grabación, Mejor Canción, Mejor Album y Mejor Nuevo Artista, record que comparte con Norah Jones. De este álbum destacan las canciones «Sailing», «Ride Like the Wind» y «Never Be the Same.»
Su segundo álbum llamado Another Page de 1983 incluía las canciones «Think of Laura» y «All Right.»

so much about this guy's music has kept it at classic status in the nearly 30 years since it's release. christopher cross, one hit wonder though some may call him, remains the only artist to EVER win all of the big four grammy's in a single night: record of the year, song of the year, album of the year & best new artist. sailing, never be the same, & ride like the wind set it off properly for him & were extended by "the best that you can do" & "think of laura." somebody better pay homage to this guy quickly before i lose patience!! no easy listening/soft rock radio station/playlist is complete without those essential 5 songs
