Charon es un grupo Gothic metal nacido en finlandia en 1992 por la gracia de Antti Karihtala, Teemu Hautamäki, Pasi Sipilä y Jasse Hast . En sus inicios eran una inexperta banda algo duros de la escena del Death Metal. En la primavera de 1993 grabaron la maqueta «Inexorable Reciprocation». La demo era bastante convencional y con un Death Metal bastante rápido. Fue promocionado en la escena metal internacional y tuvo muy buena respuesta. Ese mismo año se grabó más material que fue publicado en septiembre bajo el nombre de «Promo’93». Su música ya había dado un gran paso hacia un estilo mas original y único. Esta cinta ya mostraba el estilo de música al que Charon quería llegar: un death metal técnico, progresivo y realmente melódico. En diciembre del 94 Charon grabó otro demo llamado «Dias Irae». Esta cinta despertó mucho interés en la escena metal internacional y varias compañías de discos se interesaron. La música en «Dias Irae» era un metal poderoso y agresivo realizado en un caos atmosférico o progresivo que quedaba por encima de lo corriente y ordinario. A comienzos de 1995 la música de Charon cambio a un estilo mas melódico y multidimensional. En julio de 1995 volvieron al estudio a grabar un nuevo demo promocional llamado «Pilgrimage». Se añadieron coros para darle una nueva visión a las canciones. Quien se encargo de los coros fue J.P. Leppäluoto que fue contratado dos semanas antes de iniciar la grabación. Las partes vocales se ensayaron en el estudio y resulto que el que hacia los coros se había convertido en cantante principal.

The ''goth'' guys that wear baggy clothing, mostly are posers, that listen to slipknot and stuff like that.

Gothic metal is metal that is (now loosely) based off of Paradise Lost's album "Gothic," although it is now mostly bands that use solely clean singing. Goth music is music that Goths (black, baggy clothing, too much makeup... basically emos that would have no qualms kicking someone's ass) listen to. While they may have overlap, goth music (rock, metal, etc) is far more mainstream than gothic metal.
