I listened to this for the first time yesterday and I couldn't even comprehend what was going on, despite having dabbled in Avant-Garde music before. I gave it a second listen later that day and then thought to myself "Ah, I'm now finding stuff to latch onto". I imagine that the more times I listen to this, the more I'll enjoy it.

Clearly Nagiito was listening to AnCo and Radiohead as he typed that.

I'm pretty sure the people who bought it in 1969 didn't 'see it growing' on them either (but then they were born in an era before the internet, so they didn't have attention spans of thirty seconds), yet it has the reputation of being one of the finest and most original rock albums ever made, so clearly it grew on one of two people.

v Agreed. Specially Lick My Decals Off, Baby. That one's a freaking masterpiece

Also hot damn if you guys like this album you need to get your ears squarely planted against Lick My Decals Off, Baby and Doc at the Radar Station. The music has much of the same kind of structure but the mood isn't the same.

@You two below, was my first listen and I don't see it growing on me. I don't "get" it. But that's alright, I'm sure most people won't get it either and those that do quite like it. I was kinda baiting for something when I said it was the "worst piece of shit I've ever heard". More power to you if you "get it" and enjoy this album And Yeezy is a god damn genius you leave him out of this!

@WillemKauf: and you've heard a lot of Kanye West, so that is really saying something.

War two rained death and showers and skeletons danced and screaming and dying in the ovens cough and smoke and dying by the dozens down in dachau blues

I like the album for its complexity. It sounds mystical and wonderful, while also sounding sick and tired. Such a unique combination!

The shoutbox is just reflecting the controversy that the album itself has always had. There is no rock album in history that divides opinion quite so powerfully as this one. And it also benefits from not being 'elitist' or too avant-garde to never be heard by anyone outside of experimental music fans -- it was given five stars by the likes of Rolling Stone, for example and appears in countless 'mainsteam' best ever album lists. The likes of Xenakis or John Cage or whoever would probably never be listened to by most casual/rock music listeners in the first place.
