  • [Bright Eyes + Jenny and Johnny]

    14 Jul 2011, 12:03 de murderxthexcase

Wed 13 Jul – Bright Eyes, Jenny and Johnny
    Location: Leeds 02 Academy, UK

The event kicked off at around 7:30pm thanks to some seriously organised set up by the bands' road team with the country-and-western-influenced musical stylings of Jenny (Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley fame) and Johnny (Johnathan Rice) who were first introduced by Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes.

Their repertoire included songs such as Animal and Switchblade. They concluded a solid and well-received set with their most popular track (according to Last.fm listings), Big Wave.

After a very brief interlude (I timed it to only be a mere twenty five minutes), Bright Eyes hit the stage with Another Travelin' Song, a song which successfully set the tone for the night. Their setlist was a clever mix of the old, the very old and the much newer; tracks from the early days of their career such as Bowl Of Oranges and Lover I Don't Have to Love, favourites from Fevers and Mirrors such as Something Vague and The Calendar Hung Itself. …

  • One song. Each day. Every day. (2010)

    15 Oct 2010, 5:29 de lassaucepan

The titles says it. Every day i'm going to pick a song I think represents that day the best and I'll even give a little explanation why.

Reasons I may pick a song:

I listened to it a lot.
I had it in my head.
I was blown away by it.
    I discovered it.
    I rediscovered it.
    I heard it somewhere special.
I listened to the lyrics in a new way.
    I learned something about it.
    I cried to it.
    I saw it performed.
It's a really fucking good song.

So let's get this party started:

Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010: Arcade Fire - We Used to Wait - Going through a rough time adjusting to college 6 hours away from everyone I know and love. I'm changing fast...I just hope something pure can last.

Friday, Oct. 15. 2010: Kid Cudi - Soundtrack 2 My Life - CuDi was at Northwestern tonight. The show was pretty good, this song was by far the highlight for me. Reminded me of driving down Paragon in the summer at 3 in the morning. And he's from Ohio--major bonus points!

  • My favourite lyrics, or I should be more tidy

    31 Dic 2009, 15:50 de upesupernova

Hi everybody! This is my first proper journal entry, so enjoy and comment if you want.

I've always been the kind of person who has lyrics stuck in its head, so a couple of years ago I started writing them down, specially in books, or notebooks. Eventually I made a list of my favourite ones. It was a nice list, and I really liked it, but I lost it. So I decided to make a new list, and I lost it too.
This is my third list, and I don't want to lose it, that's why I decided to write it here.
    So, here it is:

" Living in the ruins of a castle build on sand" Tell the King

"About as subtle as an earthquake" My Mistakes Were Made for You

"And it's the fame that put words in her mouth, she couldn't help but spit them out" My Mistakes Were Made for You

"If you lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long" The Good Old Days

"I've tried so hard to keep myself from falling back into my bad old ways. …

Sat 22 Sep – Super Sweet Endfest 16

To all the people that bitched about the ticket price: you couldn't have been more wrong.

Quite simply, the show totally fucking rocked. Exceptions: Bright Eyes played an extremely short set, though it was good. I didn't enjoy Satellite Party much, the woman (I believe Perry Farrell's wife) was a complete fucking tool. I don't even think her mic was on. Other than that, their performance was okay, though completely unremarkable.

Smashing Pumpkins easily played the best set of the night. It was a sprawling epic. It seemed endless at the time. Somebody smashed a baby pumpkin near me. The smell was unmistakable.

It was the perfect end of summer.

    Bright Eyes set:
An Attempt To Tip The Scales
    Another Travelin' Song
    Four Winds
You Will. You?Will. You? Will. You?Will.
    Bowl Of Oranges
    Arc Of Time
nik freitas w/ bright eyes (unsure of title, new)
Tear Gas Riot Song or 'What good are you?' (unsure of title, new)

Sun 16 Sep – Bright Eyes, Kimya Dawson, Nik Freitas

By my reckoning, the set list:

An Attempt To Tip The Scales
    Another Travelin' Song
    Four Winds
    Poison Oak
    Method Acting
    Arc Of Time
You Will. You?Will. You? Will. You?Will.
    Padraic My Prince
    Classic Cars
    Spring Cleaning
When The Brakeman Turns My Way
No One Would Riot For Less
    Old Soul Song
    Bowl Of Oranges
    Hit the Switch
tear gas riot song/Cockroaches/What good are YOU?

The set was mostly identical to what was played in Spokane the day before, but the sound was soooo much better at this venue. I really enjoyed the show. The size of the venue was 'just right.'

The new song is fucking awesome, too. It reminds me of Neil Young & Crazy Horse. I've no idea as to the actual title of the track. Somebody else got the set list. It's definitely a promising direction and I hope it is representative of what will be on their next album.

As an aside, they said they played at an art gallery in olympia earlier in the day. …
