La banda holandesa de pop-rock Bettie Serveert, llamada así por un manual educativo de la tenista Bettie Stoeve, se hizo popular en su tierra y en radios universitarias americanas con su debut “Palomine” de 1992. Su primera formación fue compuesta por Carol van Djik (voz y guitarra), Peter Visser (guitarra), Herman Bunskoeke (bajo) y Berend Dubbe (batería), se formó originalmente en 1986, pero se separaron después de sólo un concierto. Se reformó en 1990 y lanzó su álbum debut, Palomine, en 1992.Firmaron por el entonces emergente sello indie Matador junto a Pavement y Liz Phair. Se les emparentó con toda la corriente Noise-rock norteamericana que triunfaba por aquel entonces: Buffalo Tom, Sebadoh, Guided by Voices, pero ellos desde la distancia que marcaba su procedencia holandesa permanecieron siempre ajenos a las comparaciones.
La banda estaba avocada a ser una fuerza mayor en la escena de alt-rock, pero después de dos poco inspirados discos en los 90 Matador los dejó.
Siguió una trayectoria siempre coherente, siempre brillante pero ya decididamente alejada de coordenadas comerciales, su discos solo los disfrutaban unos pocos fans que sabían de sus nuevas canciones prácticamente por el boca a boca.
Sin la distracción de las grandes giras, unieron esfuerzos para lanzar “Private Suit” (2002) pero con notables cambios:
