this is the best BK to date, he suits this sound and its a great departure from his pop sensibilities.

I can understand why a lot of people are saying this album is not his best. You can not just listen to this album once and expect to like it. I didn't like this album at first, but it got better with every listen. I now consider it to be right up there with all of his other albums. Fantastic record!

this album is incredible, i still have trouble with people who arent musicians critiquing musical accomplishments with no knowledge of great music. ben kweller is from texas, this album is his roots. Changing horses is right up there with To Willie from Phosphorescent as 2009's country albums. how you can diss bluegrass & country is beyond me. Kwellers' best album by far.

Support the artist, not the album. IMO he's done folk pretty well on this album. It is different from his other stuff, and clearly fans of poppy indie/alternative wouldn't be so stoked on this. It's the same thing as DJ shadow going from turntablism to more of a hyphy hip hop feel - just because artists redo themselves doesn't mean it's awful music.

I agree with scott_sea. Ben Kweller has always leant toward folk and country. With this album he just dives right in. I love it. It's way better than the crap most people consider to be country music nowadays.

changing horses in a terrible way. This is so far removed from his great songs like Commerce TX . . I'm just glad I listened to it before I bought it, because if I would have spent money on this i probably would have destroyed it with a shotgun.

I don't think this is quite the departure that some people say it is. Ben's always had country leanings...

Now this is actually country I can get into. Very lovely. Ben Kweller has yet to disappoint me, honestly.

I think Ben has done a great job on maintiaining good and thoughtful song writing in this album accompanied by simple good music. Yes it is a departure from his other work. But everyone needs to change. Hell Bob Dylan was almost crucified for it, but look were that got him, legendary status. Great album, especially like Gypsy Rose, Fight, Ballad of Wendy Baker, Sawdust Man, On her Own and Homeward Bound.

haven't got this album yet but i can't wait to hear it, i thought his self-titled was quite disappointing compared to his first 2. it was still a good album, 13 was the best song, but it still didn't compare to his first 2. i feel country will suit him

I'm wondering how you can go from the self titled album which is MIND BOWINGLY GREAT (seriously, thirteen, makes you want to cry, simply beautiful.) where every song is so good and different and fun to such amazing songs like falling, walk on me, family tree which is also great, to i need you back, my apartment, on may way....etc. to this album!! i do not understand. Simple lyrics, simple rhythm, slow, and most sound the same. Homeward bound is ok. but really.. Overall, Ben, you changed horses, please change back.

A depature from previous albums' sound, but an excellent one. Really like his country sound and as Jupiterpol has said this is perfect morning listening. The slide guitar and simple sound really accentuate Ben's voice and highlights his songwriting ability. I think it is one of those albums you can listen to again and again. Standout tracks for me at the moment are Old Hat, Fight, Sawdust Man, Homeward Bound and Things I Like To Do.
