"“Honour forbids me but honour be damned. You have whined till you got what you want, I did the work and when things were going badly, you left us to rot." He locked the door or the boardroom and turned like the scene from the old country song, towering over the table he’s lost, he is drunk with it all..." || Beautifully realised tragic song, and I agree that it's one of their bravest and best. Love the strings too.

I don't understand why people focus on Belle & Sebastian ripping off other artists. Like no one else ever does that? Look at any popular song of the last 10 years, most of them are completely unoriginal and sampled from someone else.

Sometimes, artists add a part or parts of another song because they're paying homage to it or to the artist who sings/wrote it. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

The first time I heard this song I was all "is this some interpretation of 'I've Never Been to Me'"? They do sound similar enough that I immediately came to this page to see if anyone else thought so too.

Haha! Yeah, I can't hear it either. Two different songs. Think it's just because both songs have a kind of er... rise in the singers voices. Does that make sense...? The Charlene song is cheesy as hell...

thanks, SoylentBlack, now i finally know why this sounds so familiar ... i heard the charlene-version in one of the best movies ever, the adventures of priscilla, queen of the desert.
