There’s misery in all I hear and see from the people on TV. After their tea when life begins again, they’ll be happier than me. There are a thousand meals being made on Saturday from the view I saw today. I took a bet inside the launderette with a girl from Wallasey.

How could I *not* love this track? It marries a twee melody with word play, philosophy, and lust. If you are looking for a pp_f track, this is it.

oh, the's incredible how b&s take some of their best songs and put them as b-sides.

The cutest inspired comic was made about this in the B&S Anthology: Put the Book Back on the Shelf.

QUESTION:Hi, I'm Lucio, a philosophy professor, and I'm mailing from Bom Despacho, Brazil. I wonder if you could explain the meaning of the lovely song Marx and Engels. I love the song and I would like to understand the relationship between B & S and Marxism...The words at the end of the song are part of the Communist Manifesto? ANSWER: Hi Lucio, There might be a connection with B&S and Marxism, but I must admit that that wasn't much to do with the song. When you start a political course at Glasgow University the first book that you have to read is a Marx and Engels reader. The boy in the launderette is interested in the girl, but the girl is more interested in her Marx book. Hence she is heard to quote liberally from the book while the boy mentally removes her smock and her CCCP t-shirt. Stuart

This song is just what I need right now. Just the whole feel of the production, how it's so quiet and gentle...

It's a piece from the Communist Manifesto: 'The bourgeoisie, historically, has played a revolutionary part to all feudal, idyllic relationships. It has resolved personal worth and in place of freedom is exploitation for profit alone. There is a spectre of the past in my bold assertion. We could learn much from the past'

Does anyone know the lyrics for the counter-melody in later part of the song? This has bothered me forever, and I can't find them anywhere.
