Behold… the Arctopus es un trío de metal experimental totalmente instrumental, originario de Brooklyn, Nueva York. Lo forman desde 2001 Colin Marston y Mike Lerner a la guitarra. Charlie Zeleny fue el batería de la banda desde 2003 hasta 2008. Los miembros del grupo vuelven a utilizar programaciones de batería para sustituirle.

La música de Behold… The Arctopus es metal progresivo de gran complejidad técnica. Parte de la música se ejecuta con guitarras de 12 cuerdas para cubrir con un solo instrumento todo el rango armónico de una guitarra y un bajo tradicionales.

Sus influencias incluyen música clásica contemporánea, jazz, y otras bandas de metal progresivo como Cynic, Ulver, Death, Neurosis, Darkthrone, Meshuggah, Voivod y Gorguts. Entre los compositores clásicos que han influido en su música se cuentan Béla Bartók, Luciano Berio, Arnold Schoenberg y Krzysztof Penderecki.

Su único álbum «Skullgrid», de 2007, es un material muy técnico y agresivo, aunque también melódico, e incluso con un toque de humor que suele faltar en el rock progresivo de hoy.

In my opinion, the point of Arctopus' music isn't to be cohesive or to have "feeling" like the sense of a typical metal band- it's meant to be unpredictable and at times seemingly random. If they wanted to have constant grooves and feelings throughout each song (which is the thing most haters seem to have against them), they could just make typical metal or whatever type of music.
