Whoo, it was a time ago since i last wrote here. Well i'm trying to do so again, why? no reason, just feeling like it =P
This "my 10 favorite" is the typical entry which takes the 10 songs i like the most from an artist or band, an idea which i originally saw written in
MinaseTaki's journal. And the artist I'm gonna talk about this time is Ms. Kaori Asada, or as you may know her,
BONNIE PINK.
It would be easy to put 10 out of the thirteen songs from
Let Go, since it's her very bestest album IMO. But it wouldn't be too creative, right? So I'm gonna dig a little into all of her discography and try to make a personal and diverse top 10. Here we go:
10. Monster
Even though
Golden Tears wasn't an album as brilliant as its predecesor
Even So, it still had some curious, catchy tunes like the one above. It's basically a non-pretentious, short, 3 minute pop song with Bonnie's sweet voice all over.
Why is this a favorite? You've gotta love the keyboard at the beginning which goes through the rest of the song. It's so damn funny xD
9. Losing Myself
Another short song that goes very acoustic, and a bit dark. Bonnie actually plays guitar here in a very calm and quiet way. As usual with her songs, her voice and the melody as a whole just go with the flow. The only thing is that, it's too short IMO (just 3:30). But well, too much quality on just one longer song could turn it to be boring.
Why is this a favorite? The pre-chorus guitar chords is like two or three asynchronous notes together, which makes it sound just awesome.
8. Thinking of You
There's a little song full of just pure joy. Again there's this acoustic guitar making the atmosphere and a little drums giving the song much more body than a regular mellow song. And how can I forget about the claps? Believe it or not, they do work!
Why is this a favorite? Well, I've gotta say I'm guilty: the lyrics in this song are GOR-GEOUS. And it's like the music and the lyrics are bound together, which makes this song a very consistent one.
7. 妄想LOVER
Mousou Lover, Delusional Lover, whatever the hell it's tagged, that's the song. Whilst many people diss
ONE as a disappointment, I think it was way better than
Thinking Out Loud. This is somehow the reason: ONE has actually more memorable songs. Mousou lover it's, as usual with Bonnie, a song with a calm and very, very acoustic groove, there's even a little flamenco-like solo here. Overall, it's a funny song to listen to when you're going downtown. Things be assured, it will draw a smile all upon your face, that's so win about it :3
Why is this a favorite? To me it's the song in which Bonnie's voice work the best from all the album "ONE". It's very sweet but strong at the same time.
6.Anything For You
Well this song makes you move a little more. Here she uses more and more instruments: keyboard, some groovy drums, a strong-tuned bass, and of course the guitar. So it's a little more complex than the average Bonnie song. But although it's more complex it's no fail at all, because the instruments are so well connected with her voice it makes everything click perfectly.
Why is this a favorite? The overall feeling. Funny, funny, funny! You want something to cheer you up? listen to this ;D
5. Present
Whilst the album version was cool enough, I'd definitely have to stress this song out of her
Pink in Red live album as the best and most awesome of them all. Seriously, this song played live has absolutely no rival. A groovy song with some fresh jazz arrangements on drums and bass puts the whole table for your ears to enjoy it. Needless to say her interaction with the audience turns this song into 3:30 minutes of happiness and joy.
Why is this a favorite? As I said before: Bonnie herself = win. Bonnie + Jazz = EPIC win. Although it has the same melody, the live version is a more vivid and colorful one, because of the Jazz arrangements used.
4. Sleeping Child
So what do we got here? Bonnie goes bossa nova. And it's just - too - fucking - swell. The song it's just so simple it's fantastic. Put a guitar, some drums and a light, discrete bass together, mix it with one hell of a voice like Bonnie's. Enjoy while it's hot. That's the formula :D
Why is this a favorite? I just love bossa nova as a genre, and listening to one of my favorite female artists trying it is touching to me <3
3. Take Me In
This is an awesome song because of two things: 1) it's just a groove which is played in a different way between each chorus and a verse. and 2) It's the jazziest song I've ever heard from Bonnie. Here she relies solely on the musicality of her back-up band, which, as usual, never disappoints. It's an original song to me because of the fact that is just one groove, but it's played in so many ways it never gets boring.
Why is this a favorite? It's a song far away from the usual Bonnie's pop/ballad style, and it still kicks ass. That's when I realized she is way more versatile than any pop artist... ANYONE
2. We've Gotta Find a Way Back to Love
How many cover songs have been made in the history of music? don't know, a lot. And from all the covers, which ones are the one standing as the best? The ones that have an own vibe, and add that "extra" to the original song feeling it makes you enjoy it so much. That's the best. And with this Bonnie's cover of
Freda Payne that's no exception at all. From the second you start listening to it, you know what's coming next... or so you thought. It has so much put together... it has a backup chorus, it has soul, it has some drum & bass... hell, i'll leave it short. It has everything this song needs to make this song a superior version of the original one.
Why is this a favorite? Well if the reasons I've stated before are not enough, I guess i just have to describe it in one word:
GROOVE. It has a solid groove, the groove goes on... and on... and on... and never stops. The guitar works on to the groove, so does the bass, and the drummer... this man's a beast! O.O my point is: apart from the side this is the Bonnie's song I'm listening the most from her by now, and it's mainly because i'm trying to do a drum cover from it, there's so many right things about this song I just can't stop. Because it's W-I-N. Major words. Period.
1. Shadow
Of course the no. 1 track was gonna be something from Let Go xD and.. how can I describe this song? ... let me see... no, there's no way I could describe it in another word that is not "perfection". Overall it's a very-well-tuned guitar playing asynchronous chords over and over; there's some percussion doing the backup, and the bass putting a soft tone to the whole song. What comes next? Bonnie's voice, which is the sweetest, most beautiful version of her I've ever heard. And the song just goes on, and on... and then finishes. It may not sound as awesome to some people. But it is to me, may be for many emotional and musical reasons, but my advice is that you listen to it. Only if you do that you'll understand how fantastic and catchy this song is. There may be some other Bonnie's personal top 10's, but I'm pretty sure the fact shadow is her no. 1 track to me is something that will never change.
Why is this a favorite? As i said before, put the word perfection and describe it in 3:30 minutes. The music, the voice, the lyrics... everything. That's all I can say about it.
Well so that was my first personal top 10, something I expect to do a little more often. Yeah, I'm pretty sure this top 10 won't let the Even so or
Heaven's Kitchen fans pleased. Well fear (and get angry xD) not, because this is just my
actual personal top 10. Considering how awesome Bonnie is, It will surely change. I don't know if by next week, or next month, but it will :)
