II».

@Last_in_Line | Whatever I am trying to do, it does not include you, obviously. AS you have already proved that its impossible to have a constructive discussion with you. :)

Why don't you just publish a paper on the subject, hm? Last FM's word count restriction is obviously holding you back. I for once see no reason to repeat one and the same position in numerous post, and you're obiously in dire need of attention. Or are you trying to convince yourself that Scarecrow is shit, 'cos it doesn't live up to YOUR expectations and musical taste? It's taking you too long, dude..

For scarecrow to be a bearable alum the tracklist should have been like this: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5876/listinge.jpg | Sadly as it is now, the Scarepop has more downsides than goodsides.

Scarecrow did have some songs that are worth lisntening, ut everything else in the album was just not up to the usual standards. Another Angel Down is quite a good song, however all of the really good songs were left in singles(I can't understand why stuff like Promised Land or return to avantasia instrumentalnever got into the album...)

There are some shiny gems burried under the rubbles of Lost in Space, Carry Me Over and What kind of Love. The Toy Master, Another Angel Down, Devil in The Belfry, I don't Believe in Your Love and The title track make me come back and give the album another spin. //// Seems that nowadays you have to get a 4 meters tall, solid rock, Tobbias-looking statues for autographed merchandise D:

@Enforceris/ Well, you may perceive it as "cultural retardation of taste", but If I think that an artist's music has gone too far down, I won't listen to it. If I don't like it, I won't buy it. I don't think The Scarecrow was a completely negative developement of Avantasia's sound. It is a fact that I skip tracks when I listen to the album but what I like from it, I really like it. You love the complex song structures and thought-provoking/story-telling lyrics, which I do too, of whom The Scarecrow isn't builf off of, but there is still a lot of good music in it. I loved the Metal Operas for the music in itself, the storyline just made it even better. The Scarecrow came long after The Metal Operas were released, so I wasn't surprised in a shift in style, and as you stated, quality. It's not perfect, but I like it. (agreed that there is too much of tobi's voice in it >>")

@Last_in_Line || Oh please if you have nothing constructive to say, just stay silent. As far as It is, I and Quispiam are the only ones who actually try to argument what they are saying instead of Fan's pathetic attempts to defend Sammet and his change of direction in music. Your "omg he haz to liek only powa metal ecause he has sword in his avatar" troll attempt is getting old.

"In the name of Odin - Father Christmas has got some amazing present for you here at tobiassammet.com. Are you a true Avantasia-warrior? If so, then get ready to take your chance. The master of Opera Metal and Metal Opera offers his army of loyal fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance of winning something really cool! All you have to do is talk to the mayor of your home town or the city closest to you into putting up a stone monument in honor of Tobias Sammet on a public square. The monument has to be made from solid stone, have a minimum height of 4 meters (approx 13 foot), and it should be clear that the shown person is Tobias Sammet himself. Once built, take a photo of the monument and send it to monument@tobiassammet.com. The reward for the best monument (as chosen by a jury at tobiassammet.com) will be the publication of the photo on one of the forthcoming DVDs and a poster, signed by members of Avantasia (depending on availability...)." WTF :D

Everything doesn't have to be real original. Sometimes an artist just wish to show his heart, not caring how it ends up. Avantasia was frankly never about being original - not the Avantasia era, not the Scarecrow era. I can't honestly say Avantasia did something Helloween or Stratovarius or Edguy hadn't done before, but they still deliver some really awesome songs.

Being Original is great too and bands like Cynnic(with a strange fusion of jazz, death metal and progressive metal), Kalisia(for the original, storyline/rock_opera take) and etc prove that it can be done tastefuly. Avantasia, frankly did not become "original" or something. The originality of this project was inside the "continous storyline told as metal opera" part. The new album however has an entirely different direction, with songs going from tasteless speed metal(shelter from the rain) to outright eurovision material(carry me over/cry just a little/Lost in space). There are no original, new ideas, no successful genre fusion. Its just an album directed to wider, commercially-orientated public and teen-young-adult demographics. It feels like some sort of fast try to make money, which is clearly seen in weak song composition and "standard/template" lyrics. The amazing quest musicians are not used to the maximum of their capabilities and Tobias sings in every song.

@Quispiam | Breaking free into a new, better, more original, direction is welcome with bands. Sadly I would not say the same about the side projects. Usually the side project is created with certain and defined goal - with case of Avantasia it was to tell the story of the world of avantasia in metal opera style. || A.A.Lucassen est sums up it when asked on why his new project "Guilt Machine" is not published as "ayreon album" - "Because its not Ayreon".|| Now but if we forget this - one has to differentiate "breaking away from ___ style" from "going for more commercial sound". || Breaking away into something more original is welcome, just like Riverside broke away from being compared to Porcupine Tree or SA form cliched power metal cheese.
