Athlete es una banda de casio rock originada en el sur de Londres. Fueron amigos desde los 14 años, escuchando a grandaddy y a The Flaming Lips. En 1999 la idea de la banda se tornó más seria y empezaron sus primeros ensayos y grabaciones. Sin embargo no fue sino hasta el 2002 cuando firmados por Regal Recordings grabaron su primer EP titulado «Athlete». Al siguiente año lanzaron Vehicles and Animals, álbum que alcanzó el número 19 de ventas en el Reino Unido y que fue nominado para la presea Mercury; vendió más de 250.000 copias.
En 2005 lanzaron su segundo álbum titulado Tourist; contiene once temas emotivos y acaso deprimentes. Tourist llegó al primer lugar de ventas en su primera semana y su primer sencillo, «Wires», les hizo ganar el premio Ivor Novello a la mejor canción contemporánea.
En Junio de 2007 anunciaron su nuevo álbum, del que se desprenderán temas como Hurricane, The Outsiders, Tokyo, entre otros.
Además de estos tres álbumes, Athlete ha grabado distintas caras B con la suficiente calidad como para entrar en un álbum o recopilarlas posteriormente: Lay your head, Stand in the sun, etc…

New one still doesn't bore me. It's gets better. Brilliant album, their best. I get stuck on the first 3 or 4 songs though. They all have a brilliant single quality about them.
