At the Gates es una banda de death metal melódico de Suecia, pioneros del «Sonido Gotemburgo»
Padres del estilo que después redundó en su fusión con el black metal, con artista de culto como Dissection, At the Gates combinaba brutales vocales con una sección de ritmos a muy altos tiempos, pero lo más destacable fueron las guitarras que eran devastadoras, pero tenían melodía al mismo tiempo, pero de manera muy original, alejado de otros modelos melódicos en el metal, como Iron Maiden, siendo sus estructuras de un dinamismo y fluidez particulares, lo que permite tipificarlos en otro estilo, el death metal Goteborg, del que son precursores. La obra más trascendental de esta banda fue el álbum «Slaughter of the Soul» del año 1995. Actualmente los miembros de la banda se separaron, siguiendo caminos propios, e incluso formando bandas que también son muy exitosas como The Haunted o los varios proyectos del ex-vocalista de la banda, Tomas Lindberg: The Great Deceiver, The Crown, Lock-up etc
AT THE GATES mezclan una mezcla feroz de distintiva melodía y figuras rítmicas brutales en un sonido que, aunque es extremo permanece en la memoria del que lo escucha. Provenientes de Gothenburg, Suecia, el quinteto ganó una sólida reputación desarrollando grandes álbumes y ofreciendo frenéticos conciertos en directo. Formados a final de 1990, AT THE GATES grabaron su EP «Gardens of Grief» para para el sello Dolores, con una formación compuesta por Tomas Lindberg (voz), Anders Bjorler (guitarras), Adrián Erlandsson (batería), Jonas Bjorler (bajo) y Alf Svensson (guitarras).
