Charles Farewell is most obviously continuing as a solo artist with this name, a name that he has worked hard to build for this amount of time with his fellow artists on this project, producing Excellent quality music and a very solid reputation. Asuras' solo album Life² is Superb, his new album 360º should be released soon. I have listened to the previews of this new artist, it does indeed sound different, even though there are characteristics in some of the tracks shared in the genre between the two artists, the style of the new artist is somewhat experimental, the quality and production of the music is not the same either. It does indeed seem as though the new artist is hijacking a reputation that has taken years to build.

I fail to see why any self respecting artist would wish to choose the same name as another artist working in a similar field or genre of music... I mean...how can that new musician make an original name for themselves, or have a name that they can claim in their own right? Similarly, how can the new artist gain any respect in the eyes of the people who listen to this genre? ... and this goes beyond Lastfm. Asura as a project, originally created by Charles Farewell and Vincent Villuis has been a very firm and successful name for about 14 years, so I fail to see how the new artist could not have realised that this name had already been taken.

Put number of pics you want, my dear, it's not the point, I spoke about the chronology. Original means first in time for me, sorry if I explained it bad or if you misunderstood due to my poor english skill (you are right, I did a mistake with parenthesis and quotation marks, it's very important you mention that, indeed, waw! I have no more credibility now...). For me, Asura behaved perfectly, as far as Ryan York arrived with the same name in downtempo electronica scene two weeks ago. A little bit suspect, to say the least, objectively too. I understand he (Charles Farewell) can have been upset. A simple google glance by Non Projects (funny name regarding to the situation :) ) , for another "Asura" occurence would have avoid all that, as far as they took an ethical perspective, which seems to have not been the case a single minute.

@inri777 2/2 Regarding wiki edits: this is perfectly in line with last.fm's policy regarding multiple artists with the same name (see http://www.last.fm/music/heavenly for an example). There is *no* system in place to create any sort of differentiation, so this is what everybody's going to have to live with. At least I wasn't a dick about it; I could've stuck the Non Projects bio in there first. As for photos, Farewell has 13 pictures of his fabulous hair (sometimes glorious ponytail) vs the 4 pictures I just uploaded of York; I think the balance is in your favor.. your gorgeous, flowing locks of favor. And as a sidenote, those are called quotation marks (parentheses are what I'm using right now).

@inri777 1/2 You know, somehow I figured it'd be wildly apparent where my support lies. Bands and artists with the same name pop up all the time; I *guarantee* you Ryan York did not derive his name, sound, or concept from Charles Farewell in the least, nor is he trying to ride on whatever fame, if any, Farewell's established with the Asura name. Referring to Farewell as the original, then, would be wholly nonsensical. I can understand why Farewell might be upset, but without going into details unnecessarily (i.e. mudslinging), all I'll say is that the way he's handled the situation with the rest of the industry has been both childish and disgraceful.

Don't have to put "original" into parenthesis studentism. Charles Farewell is Asura since 1996, and Ryan York released his first album two weeks ago. So Charles Farewell is and will always be the original, objectively. Sorry if you don't care, but apparently, you belong to the minority.

This really sucks. Bad enough with artists having the same name, but when it is in the same genre as well it's not only confusing, but really annoying for fans and most of all for the original artist. Luckily though the guy who is spamming the new/fake Asura tracks won't manage to get those tracks in the top list here, because it is calculated by number of different users listening to a certain track and not purely the amount of listens.

I agree, it's just going to confuse fans and people who are just getting into Asura (original).

Sorry Skerzo, but yes, this is a name jacking. This album is sold just beside Code Eternity and Life² as the SAME artist on Itunes (some customers sent messages to say they were abused in buying this album thinking it was the usual Asura), and I just asked to a listener on last fm to stop listening in loop all the tracks of this Asura, obviously to put him in the top Asura tracks next week. In something like two days, this person (I won't tell his name by respect) listened to more than 700 times the track "Asura III".and only this track, and is about to do the same with 'timber', by this Asura. This is not decent. This is lame. This won't help the "new" Asura, as you call him, Skerzo.

Yes, there's some new artist with the same name. His album on 'Non Projects' is also called Asura. I can't imagine why would someone take the same name (and even in the same/similar genre!) as well established and popular artist, other than try to fool real Asura fans into buying his stuff. Disgraceful, really.

Just a precision: the tracks of a Fake Asura are on the net, sold shameless on Itunes just beside Code Eternity and Life², under the name of "ASURA". The fake Asura tracks: 1) Asura I 2) Peptine 3) I Saw You In Vice (Anenon Birthday Remix) 4 Orrorin 5 Asura II 6 From the Beach 7 Manzanita 8 Voxels 9 Asura III 10 Her Tearing 11 Timbe...r... (feat. Ana Caravelle) 12 The Eleventh 13 Feathers. This is not the Asura of Code Eternity, neither Lost Eden, nore Life², nore the fourth real Asura album to be released, "360". By all means, not the Asura on this page. Some would say not Asura at all. Don't be abused.
