Arch Enemy es una banda de Death Metal Melodico formada en 1995 por el ex-guitarrista de Carcass Michael Amott. En 2001 Amott decidió cambiar al cantante inicial, Johan Liiva del grupo para contratar a un frontman más ‘dinámico’. Fue entonces cuando entró en el grupo la hasta entonces periodista alemana Angela Gossow, que le había entregado una maqueta a Amott unos meses antes durante una entrevista que le había hecho.
Con Angela a las voces el sonido del grupo pasó efectivamente a ser más ‘dinámico’, menos oscuro, y con un sonido más accesible en general. Muchos fans de la banda reniegan de esta nueva etapa y echan de menos los tiempos de Liiva, sin embargo son muchisimos más los fans que ha ganado la banda desde que la Srta. Gossow está a la cabeza, convirtiéndose en una de las mujeres más conocidas de la escena metal mundial.
