Antimatter fue formado en 1998 por la ex luminaria de Anathema, Duncan Patterson (bajista y uno de sus principales compositores), y su viejo amigo Michael Moss. Un demo fue grabado en 1999 en diferentes lugares: el dormitorio de Duncan, el ático de Mick, The Bunker (el lugar de Drug Free America), el dormitorio de Danny North (Sear). No todas las canciones estuvieron en el demo. Fueron realizadas “Saviour”, “Holocaust”, “Over Your Shoulder”, “Angelic”, “Psalms”, “The Last Laugh”, y se grabaron “The Summer Effect”, “Flowers” y “God Is Coming”, pero en diferentes versiones. Tras casi dos años de idas y venidas, Antimatter fue contactado por Icon Records, un nuevo sello con base en Melbourne, Australia. Luego de algunas pocas discusiones, acordaron el contrato y comenzaron las grabaciones del álbum debut, “Saviour”, en los Academy Studios (utilizados por My Dying Bride, Cradle Of Filth, etc.) en Septiembre de 2000. La producción corrió por cuenta de Duncan Patterson y Mags (quien tocó guitarra en un tema). Fueron asistidos por Brian Moss y Les “Lecter” Smith (ex tecladista de Cradle Of Filth y actual integrante de Anathema), quienes contribuyeron con samplers, y como invitados estuvieron la cantante de Sear, Michelle Richfield (también ex Dominion) y Hayley Windsor, de Drug Free America, ambos compartiendo la tarea vocal. Duncan Patterson se encargó del bajo, guitarra, teclados, y programaciones, y Michael Moss tocó guitarra, bajo, teclados, programaciones y grabó voces.

I don't know if he still does it, but I saw Mick "applying some substance" just before the gig started - he took a bowl and a spoon on stage and ate what seemed to be a honey before he started singing. I talked to him afterwards but forgot to ask what it was. Does anyone have an idea? Perhaps that's the secret of that mighty voice ;o)
