I'm not a real fan of animal collective myself, but I've gotta tell you.. lists like that are mostly "outstanding" tracks of the year. This track is very popular, so it gets nominated..then it's in the hands of the writers, and so they publish what they deem correct.

well, as if there was ever any question, it's pitchfork's best song of 2009. i'm prepping myself for the ac faithful backlash on here. i've heard the social status comment before, and i agree that it doesn't completely make sense, but i get the feeling that he's more just stressing the connection between material things and social status... even though it's not totally coherent, he could be saying "i don't mean to seem like i care about material things, like my social status [does]." it's always kind of troubled me, but then i just forget about it and enjoy the song, because it kicks ass.
