At 10 February 1999 televised annual music awards ceremony, SHOW TV, at which he was to be named Musician of the Year, he spoke out about his 'Kurdish' background and said that he wanted to produce music in his native Kurdish as naturally as he does in Turkish. He announced that he had recorded a song in Kurdish (Karwan, released on the Hoşçakalın Gözüm album in 2001) and intended to produce a video to accompany it. At this event he was attacked by some Turkish singers like Serdar Ortac, Ebru Gundes and many other singers because of his stance on the use of Kurdish. Kaya went to France in June 1999 escaping various charges arising from his political views. He died of a heart attack in Paris in 2000, at the age of 43.

Symphonic Metal Radio

Overview

The term "symphonic metal" is used to denote any metal band that makes use of symphonic or orchestral elements; "symphonic metal" then is not so much a genre as a cross-generic designation. A few bands refer to themselves as "symphonic metal," particularly Aesma Daeva, and the term could probably be applied to generically ambiguous metal bands like Epica and Therion.

Symphonic BLACK METAL
Symphonic black metal has similar components as melodic black metal, but uses keyboarding or instruments normally found in symphonic or classical music. It can also include black metal bands that make heavy usage of atmospheric keyboarding in the music, akin to symphonic metal or gothic metal. The symphonic aspects of this genre are normally integral parts of a band, and as such are commonly used throughout the whole duration of a song.

Many black metal purists discount this genre as having nothing to do with 'black metal,' due to the heavy similarities some of its bigger bands hold with gothic metal. Claims that keyboards, female vocals and other gothic metal characteristics are inconsistent with the essence of "true" black metal have often resulted in confusion between symphonic black metal and gothic metal bands. Thy Serpent, Cradle of Filth, Anorexia Nervosa, and Dimmu Borgir have all been subjects of this claim.

Symphonic POWER METAL

Symphonic power metal, also called epic symphonic metal, refers to power metal bands that make extensive usage of keyboards, or instruments normally found in classical music similar to symphonic metal. These additional elements are often used as key elements of the music when compared to normal power metal, contributing not only an extra layer to the music, but a greater variety of sound.

The prototypical symphonic power metal band is Nightwish. Songs by Nightwish that illustrate the genre well are "Ghost Love Score" from the album Once and "The Poet and the Pendulum" on the album Dark Passion Play. These songs follow the epic scope and extended formal structures characteristic of power metal while making extensive use of orchestral elements.

After Forever is another band strongly influenced by the symphonic power metal genre, and specifically by Nightwish and Kamelot. Therion is another band that frequently makes use of symphonic elements and is influenced by power metal; however, the band probably should not be considered an example of the symphonic power metal genre because of their very strong influence from death metal, which is most obvious in the band's early years. The other examples include Visions of Atlantis and Rhapsody of Fire

The power metal band Grave Digger has released an album named Rheingold with strong symphonic elements quoted from Richard Wagner's Ring des Niblungen, but Grave Digger is not considered a symphonic power metal band because these symphonic elements are atypical for them.

Symphonic GOTHIC METAL

Influenced by the Peaceville trio of PARADISE LOST, Anathema and My Dying Bride, the Dutch band Within Temptation was founded in 1996. A debut album Enter was unveiled in the following year, followed shortly by an EP The Dance.[2] Both releases made use of the beauty and beast approach delivered by vocalists Sharon den Adel and Robert Westerholt.

Within Temptation's brand of gothic metal combines "the guitar-driven force of hard rock with the sweep and grandeur of symphonic music". The critic Chad Bowar of About.com describes their style as "the optimum balance" between "the melody and hooks of mainstream rock, the depth and complexity of classical music and the dark edge of gothic metal".

Another Dutch band in the symphonic gothic metal strain is After Forever. Their debut album Prison of Desire in 2000 was "a courageous, albeit flawed first study into an admittedly daunting undertaking: to wed heavy metal with progressive rock arrangements and classical music orchestration - then top it all of with equal parts gruesome cookie-monster vocals and a fully qualified opera singer".

The soprano Sarah Brightman recorded a symphonic metal song, Fleurs du Mal, as part of her 2008 gothic-influenced album Symphony.

Power Radio

Power metal is today associated with an epic sound tempered by characteristics of speed metal, power metal's musical forerunner. Power metal's lyrical themes, though as varied as metal itself, typically focus on fantasy and mythology (eg. , Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian, Falconer , Domine, camaraderie and hope (eg. DragonForce, Stratovarius, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Lost Horizon, Highland Glory, Sabaton), personal struggles and emotions (eg. X JAPAN, Primal Fear, Sonata Arctica, Evergrey) war and death (eg. Manowar, Sabaton, Iced Earth) or combinations of the listed themes. The prevalence of these lyrical themes span across the many languages power metal is performed in (eg. Angra (Portuguese), Darksun (Spanish). Many typical metal themes such as anti-religion and politics are comparatively rare but not unheard of.

Power metal is highly focused on the vocalist, with "clean" vocals being much more prevalent than the growling vocals often associated with death metal and black metal. Following in the tradition of Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and other heavy metal vocalists, power metal vocals are often in a high register. The majority of the genre's vocalists sing in the tenor range, capable of hitting very high notes, like Timo Kotipelto of Stratovarius, Michael Kiske of Helloween or Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear. There are however many exceptions such as Pyramaze / Iced Earth frontman Matt Barlow, Falconer frontman Mathias Blad, and Sabaton frontman Joakim Broden; they sing in either baritone or bass range, though in certain songs like Creator Failure, Barlow hits very high notes reminiscent of Rob Halford. Power metal vocalists Timo Kotipelto of Stratovarius, Andi Deris of Helloween, Kai Hansen of Gamma Ray, Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian, Jens Carlsson of Persuader / Savage Circus and Matt Smith of Theocracy and record multi-layered vocals reminiscent of Queen, creating a choral effect.. Few power metal vocalists double as instrumentalists, but the setup is not unheard of. Some singers within other heavy metal genres have high registered voices as do those singers of power metal bands. For example Joey Belladonna, formerly of American thrash metal band Anthrax, had a voice that was often high-pitched. As a result, high registered singing is not restricted to power metal bands even though the style is typical within the genre.

Mariangela Demurtas, aged 25, from the island of Sardinia, Italy, is the singer Tristania was looking, but did not dare hope, for.

The band was focusing on voice and talent when they went out looking for a new singer half a year ago. After a thorough search and many audtions, little did they know they would get all that, and more, in the form of Mary.

She's all about music - and metal to the bone. She has performed with several Italian bands, before finally joining up with Tristania. She lists her musical influences to include Janis Joplin, Diamanda Galas, Lisa DalBello, Lauryn Hill, Skin, Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley.

An educated linguist, she has already moved to Norway and settled in Tristania's home town of Stavanger. Although this is not her first time living abroad (she studied for a year in the Dominican Republic at the age of 16), it's living proof of the dedication she brings to Tristania.

Mary brings a whole new dimension to the old as well as the new Tristania material. She is also a creative force, and the band will certainly find itself with yet another bright head when they work on new material.

She brings temperament and aggressiveness to the stage, sure to complement Østen nicely. She has experience from the theatre, in addition to having been in sports since she was but a child, both aspects which will surely add character to her stage persona.

Mary has arrived - and she can not wait to meet the fans on tour.

My opinions:
Well, she is a very powerful singer (and very beautifull =O).
She looks like a Penelope Cruz or a Cristina Scabbia with less nose xD
I liked the way that she sings, specially in the music Down. I hope she can sing some classic, like Beyond The Veil and My Lost Lenore, althought I think the band will "adapt" those classics to fit her voice, since she is not an operatic singer...

Let's wait more to hear more from them...
