If you happen to be in London next Tuesday, 21st April, I recommend the UK premiere of BAKIRINOSU, a female acapella duo from Osaka, Japan.
Fed by diverse influences, the twin voices of Bakirinosu have their roots in popular Japanese music and travel, a cappella, along melodic lines that evoke both European folklore and the sound of unknown threnody, from further away. Part of Osaka’s art scene, Ras and Gaki collaborated on rock projects before testing out a more daring formula based on song. Bakirinosu is a young group, whose candour is captivating and whose voices are beautifully simple, spontaneous and tranquil, oscillating between ethnic breathlessness and poetic nursery rhymes.
