5 Oct 2007, 14:42 de HundredsOfEggs... my favourite new music style!
I always hated fusion... It reminded me of jazz-rock, Franck Zappa and other atrocities. But I admire Chick Corea and Return to Forever and I'll probably start exploring more 70-80s fusion. I wish it was called something else.
I've always loved Hermeto Pascoal and Airto Moreira and Miles Davis which are kind of fusion.
30 May 2007, 10:30 de Nectar_CardMiles Davis "(26 May 1926 – 28 September 1991) was one of the most influential musicians of the latter half of the 20th century. A trumpeter, bandleader and composer, Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz from World War II to the 1990s. He played on various early bebop records and recorded one of the first cool jazz records. He was partially responsible for the development of modal jazz, and jazz fusion arose from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Free jazz was the only post-war jazz style not significantly influenced by Davis, although some musicians from his bands later pursued this style. Davis had a talent for drawing together talented musicians in small groups and allowing them space to develop. Many of the major figures in post-war jazz played in one of Davis's groups at some point in their career.” (from Wikipedia)
This journal is a collection of the various sidemen that played with Miles during his career…

I'd hardly come to know Sivuca. Unpainted, a close friend, had brought Pau Doido back from Rio, almost exactly a year before, his passing, in December. I love(d) it and've come to know him much better, following his connection to LAYSA - He's now at 169, in my overall artists. Therefore, I'm sure, a few others've come the know him, also, through my friend's kind album gift.
I only heard of his fate this evening, from the same friend. How strange that he was @ #2 in my weekly chart, last week, with Feira De Mangaio @ #1 track and Sivuca & Rosinha de Valença @ #4 album. All without my knowledge of his death. *ques Twilight Zone theme*
Some coverage ...

1 Ago 2006, 22:02 de frondAirto Moreira "Fingers"
By 1975, when this was recorded, I guess Airto was a bit fed up with the whole fusion thing, so he went back to a straighter jazzier/brazilian folkloric style, and this is what you get on this album, a mix of jazz tunes with some samba. 9/15.
25 Jul 2006, 19:04 de frondMasabumi Kikuchi "Susto"
One of the stars of the japanese jazz scene in the 70s, keyboardist Masabumi Kikuchi is in good company on this 1981 album. Terumasa Hino, David Liebman, Steve Grossman, Airto Moreira, among others, all contribute to some great electric jazz stew, heavily reminiscent of Miles' electric period, only more focused. Don't let the 1981 release date fool you, this is some prime 70s kozmigroove material! Do seek the artist's previous albums, specially one called "Wishes". 13/15.
