Nacida en Seattle de unos padres maestros en artes dramáticas, Alison se mudó a Los Angeles a la edad de 5 años. Con ella su recién madre soltera, Alison se mudó también dentro de la ciudad varias veces. Ella desarrolló una fuerte atracción por el fantástico mundo literario de C.S. Lewis, E.B. White, Lewis Carroll y Charles Dickens, mientras crecía como una autora apasionada por su propia cuenta…
Alison se sumergió en la música clásica, Motown, Aretha Franklin, bandas de Swing, Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John, Louis Armstrong, Los Beatles, Peliculas en Technicolor y programas de televisión clásicos de los 50’s.
Autodidacta al aprender piano, Alison de manera creciente invertía sus narrativas internas en forma de canción. Encontró comodidad en la melancolía de las nuevas bandas Británicas como Aqualung, Radiohead, Coldplay y Keane, etc… También fue atraída por el minimalismo diatónico de Philp Glass y el encanto de la música Islandesa (Björk, Sigur Rós, etc.). Inspirada, Alison desarrolló el sonido de A Fine Frienzy - Arreglos de piano hipnóticos debajo de una melodía americana clásica hecha irresistible, atmosférica y con el poder de dar la vuelta al mundo.
