Desde Denver, en Colorado, surge en 1992 la figura de David Eugene Edwards. Nieto de un predicador presbiteriano e hijo de un motero rebelde sin causa, esta contradicción familiar junto con su temprana afición por la música y sus misterios, hizo que quisiera juntar el mundo del post punk oscuro de Joy Division con la grandeza del mundo country que popularizó Bob Dylan. Con esta combinación, y ayudado por Pascual Humbert, surgió 16 Horsepower. Junto a unos musicos de órdago Edwards plantea dudas de profundidad lúgubre e inabarcable sobre la religión y dios desde la firme convicción de un creyente con un trasfondo absolutamente sureño y una instrumentación que da un vuelco al country americano como solo fue capaz Dylan antes que el. Versiones imposibles como el Fire spirit de Gun Club o Partisan de Leonard Cohen, grandeza en la modestia.
Separados ya y Edwards concentrado en su nuevo y más intimista proyecto Woven Hand, son 16 Horsepower un gran desconocido para el público español. Una pena, porque la intensidad de las reflexiones y sentimientos que 16 Horsepower exploran através de la voz atormentada de David Eugene, es difícil de igualar.
