Even though I am not fully convinced someone like Apollo_Zilvala should judge others taste, seeing that he has only 1300 artists in his library and that his tastes only evolves around rock/new-punk:ish music (http://lastfm.dontdrinkandroot.net/tools/user/tagcloud/Apollo_Zilvala/overall/normal).

Also this thread is full of rock music so I will probably do really bad in here ;P (cough biased opinions hehe)

But I know this is just for fun :D

I am being lazy now as it is 3.30am so I will check in later today for personal list of 10 good albums, not top 10 as it's pretty stupid to think you could rank all the music you SUPPOSEDLY have listened to.

    cheers and nn

"that his tastes only evolves around rock/new-punk:ish music "
I assume that is supposed to be revolves.
    alas,
    1. Low- David Bowie
    2. Kid A- Radiohead
    3.Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
4.Another Green World - Brian Eno
5.Remain in Light - Talking Heads
    6.Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
    7.Ege Bamyasi - Can
    8.White Album - The Beatles
    9.Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth
10.Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against The Machine

which, I would probably edit these days, slightly, to look something like this:

    1. Kid A- Radiohead
    2. Low- David Bowie
    3.Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
4.Another Green World - Brian Eno
    5.Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear
    6.Pet Sounds - Beach Boys
    7.Tago Mago - Can
    8. Remain in Light - Talking Heads x
    9.Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth x
    10. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement x

3 of those albums really have anything to do with Rock and or New-punkish, they have x's next to them.

Low could be mistaken as "rock" I suppose but it's not really, that's why it's unique and special because it's not particularly categorical.
Miles Davis clearly isn't either of those.
Another Green World, which should be familiar to someone who's into "Electronica" isn't anywhere near those.
Grizzly bear certainly has rock leanings and influences but I doubt many people would consider it Rock or New Punkish.
Calling Pet Sounds a rock album is a pretty silly notion,
Can is Krautrock which has very little to do with conventional Rock music even though it is in the title.

and Kid A well that's just Kid A.

Exclusively listening to dance and hip hop doesn't mean you are eclectic because you don't listen to "rock." I do find yr 5000+ artists impressive, but with the genres you lean towards being mostly based in songs not albums it's not that unexpected.

You didn't have to dig that deep, I was just using that tool to quickly get a view over your supposed taste. You could've just said it wasn't correctly "calculated".

I don't understand what you in the ending of your post. I do not even listen that much to either of those two genres, dance and hip.hop. My genres are almost every subgenre of the electronic genre, from electro, psy, trance, breaks, house, hardcore etc, there are many names.
To just be eclectic about Electronic music is huge because if you care to dig around you will hear so much different stuff people can create with machines, computers and combined with instruments.

Genres mostly based on songs and not albums naah, sometimes. I would still say I like the genre but not in the same way as my main genres.
I do already know what I like and not like, I have an understanding of what "most" genres sounds like, even genres I don't feel like touching at all such as classical music, pop and rock-n-roll and maybe some other.
They're not my kind of music and I know that.

  • Illmatic-Nas
    The Velvet Underground and Nico
    Funeral-Arcade Fire
    Aquemini-Outkast
    Oracular Spectacular-MGMT
    Deltron 3030
    The Bends
    Ok Computer
    Rubber Soul
    Revolver

    ^^^^^^^^
that is an excellent list. aquemini is just incredible and the rest are bona-fide classics. i don't really personally like that mgmt album a whole lot but it's pretty cool.

    my top ten: No order

The Smiths - Self Titled (I don't need to be told that The Queen is Dead and Meat is Murder are better. I love the Smiths and all of their music. But their debut is my favorite. So this is a preemptive 'fuck off' :])
    R.E.M - Reckoning/Murmur
    Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers
    Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Sonic Youth - Sister (Man, this band. I could honestly just list 10 sonic youth albums and it wouldn't be that dishonest to my taste. I fucking LOVE sonic youth and pretty much everything i have heard of theirs equally)
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main street
    Madvillainy
The Radio Dept. - Lesser Matters
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living all over me
    Melvins - Bullhead

  • Brand New - The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
The Beatles - The White Album
    Radiohead - Kid A
    John Lennon - Imagine
    Cursive - The Ugly Organ
    The Clash - London Calling
    The Cure - Disintegration
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

This is almost impossible to do, especially since I have only lived for 20 years. There is so much that I have yet to discover.

Veckatimest shouldn't be in anyone's top ten of all time. It's a good album, but c'mon. The lack of black artists and general leaning toward really obvious indie reference points really damages whatever authority you're pretending to have by rating other people's personal tastes.

  • In no order

    Caution, Hot Water Music
The '59 Sound, The Gaslight Anthem
It's Getting Colder, We Made God
    The Final Cut, Pink Floyd
Album Of The Year, Faith No More
Live At Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash
    Youth, Matisyahu
    Ill Communication, Beastie Boys
    Wish, The Cure
Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, Dead Kennedys

    And could be much more
