there is a FANTASTIC version of 'I Found A Reason' on Cat Power's 'Covers Record'.

I actually prefer it to the VU version, she strips it all away and makes it so, so beautiful.

  • Devotchka have done an excellent cover of Venus in Furs.

I once heard a terrible cover of Sunday Morning in a shoe shop, but I don't know who did it.

Echo & the Bunnymen have performed several VU covers live, many of which are available as recordings (B-sides/box set additions, etc.)

Springing to mind right now are "Foggy Notion" and "Run Run Run".
Part of Lou's "Walk on the Wild Side" (which becomes "take a walk on the Merseyside"...!!) is often incorporated into "Nothing Lasts Forever" by the Bunnymen live.

Ian McCulloch has also performed the occasional VU / Lou Reed cover at his solo shows.
("Sweet Jane" and "Waiting For the Man" in particular...)

I prefer the original even though my friend agrees with you :P
Anyone heard Joy Division's version of Sister Ray?
Nothing on the original but its starting to grow on me

Also, Roky Erickson and Echo &the Bunnymen covered Heroin

Had to jump in and agree with the Cat Power version of "I Found a Reason" too, she really elevated it to another level the way she did it. I love that one.

  • The most famous cover that hasn't been mentioned (quite a surprise) is Sister Ray
    A great cover IMHO.

Galaxie 500 do a nice version of "Here she comes now"
and Raul7_7, yeah I heard the Joy Division cover of "Sister Ray" here on Last.Fm and it's great.

You know what they say about optimists and pessimists, right? The optimists may live longer, but the pessimists are always right.
  • The Strokes made a cover of Run Run Run, on a concert. You can try it, quite nice..

  • The cover of All Tomorrow's Parties from Nick Cave's cover album is also worth mentioning.
It beats the original IMO (it's not so hard to do though since the original is not too great).

Then there's a cover of Venus in Furs by Dave Navarro - this one falls far behind the VU original.

There are Bowie covers of "I'm Waiting for the Man" and "White Light/White Heat" (the latter played a lot, especially on the Ziggy Stardust tour)

REM made a cover of Femme Fatelle, as far as I remember, and Nico made a cover of I'm Waiting For The Man on her The Drama of Exhile album.

    Pale Blue Eyes cover

I perpetrate this cover with my friend Armin Heurich. He recorded the vocal track in the USA and I recorded all the instruments and mixed in Spain. Hope you like it!
