What is your favorite Rush album?

  • What is your favorite Rush album?

I would have to say mine is 2112. It was the first Rush album I heard. I was in high school (so I got a late start considering Presto had just come out) & at my friends house playing pool when his brother put on 2112. It totally blew my mind and have been a huge fan ever since. I think that is why 2112 is my favorite album (with Roll The Bones & Moving Pictures close behind).

What is your favorite Rush album?

  • I can't say. I love most of their albums, each for a reason. But I'd choose CoS, PeW, p/g, HYF, CP & VT (outside of the fact VT is horribly mastered).

What KarnEvil9 said, in that order. Apparently Rush has a new album coming out next year *hrhr*.

"When the first list was being drawn up in the rock and roll book of Genesis, it would have been: In the beginning, God created Pink Floyd."
    -- Rick Wakeman
  • I also heard that the boys are in pre-production for an album to be released in 2006.

Also look for previously VHS-only concerts 1981's Exit Stage Left, 1984's Grace Under Pressure Tour, and 1988's A Show of Hands, to be re-released on DVD!!!

This with the new R30 DVD, makes for an exciting year for Rush fans!!

Man, its very hard to chose a favorite..I guess I would have to go with Signals. It was one of my first albums and I remember just listening to it repeatedly for weeks on end until I finally made more Rush purchases.
All the albums have their own special themes and emotions. One that really stands out is Presto. I always considered that a jem.
All Rush is a favorite to me!

Oh yeah, this is gonna be one kickass year!

  • I'd have to pick either A Farewell to Kings or Fly by Night for top album, but like you all said, they're all amazing in different ways. Can't wait for the new stuff.

I never realized how great A Farewell to Kings was until a couple months back when I decided to listen to it after years of neglect. What an awesome album..

Same, but the other way around: Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure, 2112

for me it definitely has to be "counterparts" - for just being full of great songs with not a single weak spot.
to me it's like they've combined the sophistication of the 70's albums, melodic "flow" from the 80's and addded a rough edge, which makes 90% new heavy bands sound like boyscouts (if You don't believe, try listening to the opening part of "cut to the chase"). as for other favs: moving pictures, hemispheres, presto AND OF COURSE vapor trail. if any band does such great music after a five+ year long break, then taking such vacations should be made obligatory :)

    Presto.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I really like it.

There's not really any Rush album I don't like listening to.

  • Hey I also like Presto :) The songwriting, especially the lyrics, is very well done.

    Excellent.

I'm a member of a couple of Rush forums and it regularly gets voted least favourite.

  • On the LJ community yyz, I think the last time I checked a recent poll the p/g-RTB era was tops in the question about most listened to albums. So it includes Presto, and I think that most people do like it... they haven't just listened to it in ages so vote it least favourite.

  • Perminant Waves for me!

I find it almost impossible to say what my favourite Rush track is. They have so many brilliant tracks that reflect different moods and feelings. Also the mood I am in at the time can reflect my choice.

My favs at the moment are.

    A Farewell To Kings
    Hemispheres
    Grace Under Pressure

    Hemispheres
    Permanent Waves
    2112

Mind you, my Rush collection is far from complete: I only have the period ranging from Rush to Moving Pictures, and the live albums Rush In Rio (CD) and R30 (DVD/CD)...

Man, I love Red Sector A...one of my all time faves. But as far as album...wow, I'd have to put MP at the top since it's how I discovered Rush when I was a lad of 12. p/g is definitely up there though.

I'll just list my Top 5:
    1. MP
    2. TFE
    3. p/g
    4. Hemispheres
    5. Signals

  • Moving Pictures is my most listened to, but E...SL is my favourite because I love their live stuff. But for studio albums .. yeah, MP.

    Hi Folks,

New to the group.......just wanted to add my opinion.

It's got to be Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres or 2112. I was brought up with Rush from the age of eight due to three of my brothers being massive Rush fans. They listened to all the early stuff so this has stuck with me all my life. How glad i am that they had such good taste !!
