    Far Cry - opinons?

When I heard the clip on Rush.com I was rather excited by it's blatant Hemispheres-ness. After hearing the full track I was initially a little underwhelmed. It didn't seem to really go anywhere, It didn't follow the initial Hemishphere's chord into an old-skool thing (not that that's what I really wanted).

However, it's definitely a grower. Now a week or so and several listens later I really quite like it. It certainly has it's catchy moments (chorus) while remaining quite heavy. More clearly defined than the production mess that was Vapor Trails (though I liked the songs). Roll on April for the full album, then see you on the road!

Yeah, I can't wait for the new album. Won't have the brilliance of Moving Pictures and Hemispheres and 2112 (just bout nothing can beat them), but it'll still be one of the awesomest albums out this year.

I mean, it's Rush. How can it not be awesome?
I'm gonna see em June 16th down in Tampa... Can't wait.

It sounds very much like something from Counterparts for me,somehow I fail to see soemthing resembling from Hemispheres, but that may be just me

I like it very much, very good performed and everything works, plus the two thing I missed most about VT are back: the solos and the synths

The chord at the beginning and the end of the song is pure Hemishperes (imho). The rest as you say is a bit more "up-to-date" Rush, and the Counterparts comparison is about right!

    Like the song a lot.
Didn't like Vapor Trails much so i'm hoping new album is a change for the better.

I think the 'Hemispheres' chord is a suspended 2nd (sus2) and it's used for the main theme of Cygnus Book 2.
I tried to play some Rush songs years ago (very badly I may add) and they used sus2 chords a lot on that album, sorta neutral sound wanting to be resolved into a major or minor chord.
He used those chords a lot on Grace Under Pressure too :)

Btw Coldplay overuse them all the time, thats why they send you to sleep :P

Yes someone on another forum said it was F# Sus. I'm no guitarist, but I know that sound when I hear it! ;-)

I enjoy "Far Cry," this album is going to be quality music.

  • I liked it because I love Hemispheres, but when I saw it live, I began to adore it even more.

[/jealous mode on] I have to wait to October to see them live....

  • I think it's best Rush album long time,
    Sounds awesome to me.

  • At first i thought it was a flat song. But Damn, it has grown on me !! Now, whats next Mr. Peart ???

  • I really like this album and the direction they're going in with it. Peart's lyrics are always amazing but the song "Armor and Sword" speaks to me the most. I also really like "Spindrift" and "The Main Monkey Business".

  • malignant narcicissim (sp?) is the song that really shines to me, along with TMMB and far cry. hope is also awesome.
honestly though, I don't care much for the other songs.

All the same, we take our chances!
