How did you hear about them?

  • How did you hear about them?

How and when did you hear about RHCP?

  • Well, I had heard of the chili's years ago, but it wasn't until i startyed to sing in my first band in 2000 that I realised who they were. With the releaseof By the way in 2001, I latched on to thier musical genius, and it's built up steadily from there. Now i have all of thier albums, 4 DVDs plus a fifth DVD interveiwing people close to the band (titled 'Red hot chili peppers - The last gang in town' or something like that). Now I also own a copy of Anthony Kiedis' Autobiography - Scar tissue and a biography called By the way, as well as 'Give it away' - a book telling the story behind every chili's track written and, my most recent addition, a set of ten special edition chili's guitar picks, that i bought off ebay. think thats about it! quite an obsessive chilifreak.

Don't ya just hate it when people spell chili's with 2 L's?!
  • Wow.. That's amazing man. Be proud of yourself!

    1998

When I was just seven or eight I first heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers. My friend brough Beavis & Butthead: Do America round to my house, and when I heard Love Rollercoaster I was in awe. So, I decided to check the band out further - turns out most songs are a little different to Love Rollercoaster, but I love them just as much. They're fantastic.

  • I was about eight, when my mother started to listen to them. So I kind of grew up with them. ^_^

I started to recognise the Chili's songs around 97', but nothing really got serious until they released By the Way. Since I've purchased all their albums plus around 10 live shows, got Anthony's auto-biography (which I must add is the best book I've ever read) and I'm looking for their documentary on making the Blood Sugar album, 'Funky Monks'. :)

  • well the first song i knew was scar tissue...but at this time it wasn't anything special for me...
i started becoming a fan when i once came into the bass-lesson and my teacher who was in fact guitar-man played under the bridge...i knew i heard this song before but didn't remember it's name and the artist...then he told me that it was by the chilis and that the bassist really kicked ass...he suggested that i should check out some songs...and so i started to listen to it and now i would say that flea is my idol and that the peppers are one of two of my favorite bands

hm the first song I knew by the peppers was Californiacation, somehow I bought a CD and from that moment on I have been an addict.
I just love this band! :) By the way has anyone heard of a new release of the peppers? I just heard that they already should have came up with a new album around spring this year...

Their new album is going to be called Stadium Arcadium (apparently), and is due to be released in April. :D

  • I read about a small interview with the band and both Flea and Frusciante said the new album is more like Blood Sugar Sex Magik (funky). If this is true i cant wait, cause although Californication and By the way were very good, nothing is better than the funkiness of BSSM.

Blood sugar crazy, she has it, sex magic, sex magic........

  • I first heard the Peppers years ago, catching a listen of some of their stuff on the radio (Californication era stuff, mostly), but never really got into them. Sometime between when I first heard them and when I started getting into them heavily, I started playing bass. I can't remember exactly when it was, but it was between those two. Which kind of figures into why I like them so much.

Anyways, I used to work as a DJ at a skating rink, and, one day, one of the guys there passed me a CD and I put it on. The third song on the CD was "Under The Bridge". I instantly fell in love with them. I felt a sudden compulsion to go and listen to more of their stuff. Problem was, I didn't know who they were, or even what the name of the song was. So I asked the guy who it was, he said that it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I went home and searched for a song called "City Of Angels", because I just figured that that was the name of the song. The poor naive fool I was.

Needless to say, I got hooked on them entirely after that point, listening to all of their stuff and basically establishing them as my favorite band of all time. To add to all this, since I was learning bass stuff, I started looking into the Peppers for songs to play. I had always been in awe of the bass work that Flea had done, and still am to this day. He is my idol, which is probably one of the big reasons I like them so much; the bass plays such a great part in their entire sound. Flea is a bass god.

Anyways, that's my story. Long-winded, yeah, but there it is.

The first song heard was By the Way, and I bought the album within days of first hearing the song. At the time, I was only around 12, and music wasnt a huge part of my life. Gradually, I began to listen more and more, and became very curious.
I began working my way backwards through all the chilis albums, until now when I have most of them, and a couple of dvds too.
Since I first bought By the way, theyve been my favourite band, and I dont think theres a single song of theirs I dont like.
Hopefully Ill be seeing them In Earls Court In June!

  • The first time I heard The Chili Peppers was when Californicationcame out. I was like 12 years old and I remember hearing "Scar Tissue" for the first time and thinking how awesome it was. I went out and bought Californication, and the rest is history. I have been a huge Chili Peppers fan ever since and I have seen them twice in concert.

The first song i heard a by them was "Love Rollercoaster". Loved the video. Don´t ask. By that time i heard "Under the Bridge", "Give It Away" and "My Friends". But even that way, i didn´t became a fan of them. What a stupid kid i was...

By Californication era, i got hooked back with Scar Tissue, Otherside and Californication itself (i was like 12-13 years). I got to the point my brother gave me Californication as a christmas present. He knew i loved them. With Cali, i got to love them more. As mentioned above, the rest is history

My old long-live friend's father burnt BTW for my father. Now we're enemies but the RHCP is still one of my favorite bands.
