Mikael Akerfeldt is a rip-off artist.

Not content with copying Camel's extensive back catalog and mixing in washed out unpvre metal that would make fellow scandinavian church burning band Mayhem go bezerk with a shotgun, Mikael now seems content in ripping off Konami and the great 8-bit games of yore. I was listening to The Lotus Eater, when all of the sudden the Contra-like keys kick in at 5:50. Being a creature of habit, I reacted the only way I know how to...

UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B, A, B, Select and Start.

Damn you Mr. Akerfeldt, damn you.

that part sounds a bit disconnected from the rest of the song, isn't it? i only heard the whole thing once, but that was the impression i got.

one week later: I LOVE IT, GODDAMN.

  • Opeth = Riff Collage, ≠ Music

  • I like the combination of using black metal purist terminology like "unpvre" while simultaneously not actually knowing what country Mayhem is from...

Mayhem are from Norway, and as far as I'm concerned, Norway is a Scandinavian country.

not really trying to steal CanandMust's fifteen minutes of "fame", but when the hell are you going to post something decent (= something I asked for) on Spiral? 'cause trashcat is not amused.

obstat is right, all of a sudden at 5:50 I feel like I fall onto one of these old Dance Machines where I have to compete with Akerfeldt :D
    eventhough
in an Polytheism World, Mikael Akerfeldt is god 2.

ascending these musicians to godly positions. don't get me wrong, i really love what wilson does, and i listen to porcupine tree for years already. but he's not too much of a god. and certainly mr. åkerfeldt won't qualify too.
