Descripción:
Group for all people who regard freedom and our environment and who believe that imminent environmental crisis is deeply rooted in social and political system of this world that needs to be changed...

Social ecology is a radical philosophy developed by Murray Bookchin which holds that present ecological problems are rooted in deep-seated social problems, particularly in dominatory hierarchical political and social systems. These have resulted in an uncritical acceptance of an overly competitive grow-or-die philosophy. It suggests that this cannot be resisted by individual action such as ethical consumerism but must be addressed by more nuanced ethical thinking and collective activity grounded in radical democratic ideals.
Undoubtedly social ecology is one of the most influential currents in the eco-anarchist thread within anarchism.

"The notion that man must dominate nature emerges directly from the domination of man by man… But it was not until organic community relations… dissolved into market relationships that the planet itself was reduced to a resource for exploitation. This centuries-long tendency finds its most exacerbating development in modern capitalism. Owing to its inherently competitive nature, bourgeois society not only pits humans against each other, it also pits the mass of humanity against the natural world. Just as men are converted into commodities, so every aspect of nature is converted into a commodity, a resource to be manufactured and merchandised wantonly." (Post Scarcity Anarchism, p. 85) M.Bookchin

Although this group is based on Bookchin's ideological ground, it was created to discuss wider topics on environmentalism, anarchism and social change.

What do you think, why is all this discussion on social-ecological questions so much concentrated to climate changes? For me it seems, even if climate changes proceed, this is a ”by-product” of much more serious problems. I think actual problems for continuing stable existence of humanity (and environment, inevitably with it) are to find a way to stop perishing of living associations (and their environments) and guarantee stable minimal amount of clean air, water and fertile landscapes.

dyingdreams is talking about how they have no idea of the history of anarchism or what it really means. His comments on the Property is Theft group (http://www.last.fm/group/Property+is+Theft) might be helpful towards understanding him.

You talk about anarchism in the same paragraph of "collective activity" and democracy, that should tell you a few things. Anti-Socialism. Don't forget to check out the Collectivist Hall of Fame and try and see if you pass the "Are you a socialist wannabe?" test ;o)

Petty changes amount to seeing everything around you in your immediate psychological space differently, at least in my own case. For some people that's where it has to start. I feel that Crimethinc can help more people relate and feel positive about the realm of anarchist thought. Let's look for constructive solutions and not divisions for a change.

Suppose one managed to bridge the gap between lifestyle anarchism and socio-political anarchism? Lifestyle anarchism may not conform to your vision of how anarchism should be represented, but in my experience, those who have espoused views inspired by Crimethinc are not any less inclined to take action than those who study classical theory.

Psilocyn - Diversity in and of itself is not inherently a good thing. If our goal was diversity then we'd let fascists, leninists, and racists into our fold. Yes classical anarchism is flawed in many ways and does require an infusion of new ideas, but these ideas are not to be found among lifestylists. I am hostile towards them because they further marginalize anarchism and divert potentially

novemillimetri - yes individual anarchists may have a mix of both but that doesn't mean I can't criticize lifestylism as an idea. That's like saying because someone is both nationalist and Marxist there is in fact no distinction between nationalism and Marxism. Also, there are organizations (such as Crimethinc) and events which are clearly lifestylist in character.
