A group for those whose misspent youth involved an excited fortnightly trip to the newsagents to get the latest issue of 'Smash Hits' magazine... for those who sang along to their tapes using the 'Smash Hits' songwords (is Tracy Barlow still upstairs listening to hers?), those who plastered their favourite star's 'Smash Hits' posters all over their walls and who wore those 'Smash Hits' badges to school with pride! And if you're wondering, all the connected artists to this group were 'Smash Hits' cover stars!

Please note that this group is completely unofficial and is in no way connected to EMAP, Smash Hits or related publishers. It exists merely as a group where those who have affectionate memories of their 'Smash Hits' readership can congregate and reminisce.. (Enough already - Ed.)



Since cracking open this time capsule of a group, the following have managed to top the group charts - all by themselves, without having to share the number one spot. And who wants to share their 'Number One'? That 'rival mag' (pah! - Ed) was only on a par with 'Look In'... only 'Smash Hits' will do!!

    Sounds quite a collection @Shorty5 - happy times! Wish I still had all those I bought from 1988 to 1995... maybe they'll follow-up that 80's annual with one dedicated to the 90's someday!

    Oh yes I have got the same book , it's quite good ! I like the interviews with famous new wave groups. The Adam & the Ants pages are great , I learned lots of details about their history and debut

    I have the same book that eeejaytee95 is talking about, and like Emily, I too have my poster up (the Wham! side off course!) but my husband persuaded me to put it up in my wardrobe, he said it looks great in there!! NO, andrewjt, don't do it!!!! I wish I had kept all of mine, instead of ripping the posters out of them and plastering them all over my walls and ceiling!

    @ andrewjt... no! How could you part with any? They're a history book of pop music! (says the person who always cut them up and Blu-Tac'd all the Kylie pictures to his walls!)

    I have a book of Smash Hits magazine articles from the 80s, it came with a giant Wham and John Taylor poster (which I put on my borthers wall hehehe), the whole book is great, when I am stuck for hair and clothes ideas it comes in very handy :)

    My bedroom was a ghetto of Kylie posters - most of them from 'Smash Hits'. This was 1988/1989. And my mother said: "You won't even like her in six months!". Twenty years later, and she's very much proven wrong! Wosh I hadn't got rid of all those posters, though... but I'm not sure that a now grown man should have access to Kylie posters anyway!!
