2 Min. Pop Quiz; Ono or Oh no?

    Seems like most people are pretty sure they either love Yoko or they hate her. I love her, and I'll tell more about that later , right now it's simple;

    1. Yoko Ono
    2. Yoko Oh no!

    Pick one.

    1.

I'm not a HUGE fan, and I don't think that she really broke up the Beatles. If you guys haven't heard it yet, check out her remix album that just came out. A lot of great bands like the Flaming Lips, Le Tigre and Peaches remixed a bunch of her songs, and it really is a great listen.

    Feelin' so groovey it sucks

I saw the Rolling Stones rock n roll circus on NPR a month or so ago, and her singing with not only John playing, but an entire dream roster of classic rock assembled behind her, well...
it's not the first time I've lost faith in humanity. I'm just worried that it hurts a little less each time.

    neither one

I don't hate her, and I don't love her either

  • 2.

Oh please. She must be absurdly good in bed, cause hell she's ugly and she can't sing shit. Either that or John had a bit too much time with LSD.

Loved the comment John made that when he heard the B-52's Rock Lobster, he thought of the music him and Yoko made. He loved her, that's all that matters, though personally I feel uncomfortable seeing her with the band in the Rock and Roll Circus, and on the Mike Douglas show with Chuck Berry.

Great Comments!, a big me too on most all of what you said. I do remeber the same kind of reaction to the "Whole lotta Yoko" at the Rock-N-Roll circus and the Johnny B Goode Jam on the Mike Douglas, and also to the live jam with Zappa on Somewhere in New York, but that was then and this is now. As John said with his B-52's comment, she was way ahead of her time. If I go back and listen to those tracks that I just could not listen to way back when, I get it now, she is still way far ahead of most anything else, and of corse, to know her, is to love her.

I don't love her, but I'm very intrigued by her. Ultimately I want to hear more of her music, but right now I've just got so much music and she's not at the top of my priority list. I heard a Ween remix of her song "Ask the Dragon" and thought it was hilarious/weird/awesome. I loved Yes, I'm A Witch. "People claim she can't sing, but I think she's a great spoken word artist and that her more experimental vocals are great within the freak folk context. Context is important. If you listen to her with tags like , , , etc., then in mind she really shines. If you're expecting good solid rock or pop, then, no, absolutely not.

I think you probably have to make an effort, and a lot of people just don't want to invest any energy in her. As long as you're not reluctant due to some childish notion that she broke up the Beatles or the even worse bizarre conspiratorial notion that she killed John, then fine.

I don't believe she broke up the Beatles. John loved her, and that is most important. It's a shame so many people only know her because of that accusation.

George Harrison wanted to leave the Beatles way before she came into the picture

    1. "Yoko Ono."

John said that he'd wanted to leave The Beatles as early as '66.

Yoko isn't the best musician, but I do enjoy her songs on Double Fantasy.

To say that Yoko broke up The Beatles is to deny so many factors. George Harrison's increasingly great songs threatened the traditional Lennon/McCartney dominated album. The Beatles' carefree attitude was enormously successful in the realm of music. When it came to business, it was a complete failure. It became John, George, and Ringo (all of who were backing Allan Klein) against Paul (who was backing Lee Eastman). Ultimately, I think John, Paul, George, and Ringo needed a change of pace. For approximately a decade, they spent nearly every day together (not to mention the years before Ringo joined). It's pretty unreasonable to expect four musicians as talented as The Beatles to stay together forever.
