how to make your scaicha (on your pc)

    (1) download http://choerbaert.org/wiki/_media/scytheman:zeugs:scaicha.tar

    (2) unpack the tarball

    (3) open your bash (or another console) and enter in the scaicha-folder:
    python main.py -s -u YOURUSERNAME -p PERIOD -i IGNORE-TAGS
    explanation:
    -s (calculates scaicha-score as well)
    -u USERNAME
    -p PERIOD (applicable values: 3 6 12 overall)
    -i IGNORE-TAGS-LIST (e.g.: -i rock,metal,pop)

command will build 2 pictures (PNG) in the current folder

    (4) upload pic somewhere (e.g. dropbox)

    (5) include pic-link (e.g. from your dropbox) in your lastfm-profilepage

    the command is:
    windows: "cd C:\Whereever\You\Extracted\The\Tar"
    linux: "cd $HOME/Whereever/You/Extracted/The/Tar"
mac: I have no idea :)

(for the python command, you need to install python (http://python.org/download/)

    I downloaded scaicha.tar and python.
I don't know how to continue..can anybody help me?

  • Well, unfortunately, your guide doesn't cover a failproof guide to install cairo which is very hard to install under windows. I've actually installed gtk+, pycairo, pygtx and pygobject but it's still not working.

you're right, :/ cairo was already installed at my system. with windows i have really no experience howto install and run all that stuff....

    maybe you can try this:

  • Hi sezzver, thanks for the nice explantions :).

I never tried to run scaicha under Windows so far because of all those annoying dependencies. However there seems to be a package manager for python, pip, and some installation instructions for Windows. Maybe it is possible to install all the required packages using pip, would be nice to know if someone managed to do this.

    Dependencies

Bro, I was able to do it.

You can get all the dependencies from here:

    http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/binaries/win32/dependencies/

I know it's an old topic but it's a great script.

I am running windows 7 and python 2.7.3 and it works great.

  • I added some installation instructions for scaicha for Windows and Linux including a link to a working windows pycairo installation. Should be easy for a medium-experienced Windows user.

    Almost!

I finally got it to run under Windows7 but it's crashing - I think it's the quotes in the artist name, is there any way around this (even if it's just skipping the illegal artist)

    Cheers

    Phil.

  • Hi Phil,

sorry for answering so late, I read this forum only occasionally. Better try to contact me directly or create an issue at the github project page (https://github.com/scaidermern/scaicha).

The problem you reported has already been fixed in the development version (https://github.com/scaidermern/scaicha/commit/d9b19d52f09a9de5de854b447ff638a2127cd626). You can download it from there.

    Regards
    Alex
