Rhythymbox, iPod and time zone issue

  • Rhythymbox, iPod and time zone issue

    Hi All

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10, have a 5.5 Gen iPod and use Rhythymbox to scrobble. When I listen to music on my iPod and then plug it in to my PC and load Rhythymbox all my recently played music on the iPod gets scrobbled automatically (which is great!) but with a time zone 13 or 14 hours ahead of mine (I'm GMT+2).

Unfortunately this means that if I listen to any tracks directly from Rhythymbox within 13 hours of plugging in my iPod they trigger the spam filter as Last.fm believes they were listened to before the last submission from my iPod.

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried changing the time zone on my iPod but it just get re-set the next time I plug it in to the PC.

I got hit by exactly the same bug. I don't really understand why last.fm allows for tracks to be submitted ahead of time -- it makes no sense to submit tracks which I may not actually hear when the time comes.

As for changing the iPod timezone, well, decided in their almighty wisdom that the timezone listing should be related to the language your iPod is using. So, if I use my iPod in English, it only allows for timezones for countries which speak English (yeah, go figure that one).

  • i have the same problem. i changed to another time zone now and it stayed even after plugging onto my computer. well, now let's see what happens. ^^

  • It looks like the time only gets re-set when I plug my iPod into my girlfriend's Mac, but not on my Unbuntu machine.

Umm, I know this is rather an old issue, however, I am experiencing the same now on Ubuntu 8.04 and my iPod 5.5 Gen. All songs are scrobbled some hours in advance (as last.fm tells me on my profile afterwards). The strange thing for me is, that I can't determine any specific timezone as you mentionend. Sometimes they are scrobbled between six and seven hours in advance, but I also experienced 12 or even 13 hours difference (I neither did alter the iPod timezone nor did I change the timezone on my computer).

    Any news on this problem?

Same issue here. I also had a load of duplicates uploaded. I've decided to only plug my iPod into my mac and keep it away from RhythmBox.

Hmm, unfortunately, I don't own a Mac, but only my old and slow desktop that runs on Ubuntu 8.04, so Rhythmbox is my only chance... ;)

I'm getting the duplicates on OSX as well. So that just leaves the time stamp issue. Have you tried other software? iPodscrobbler? Just for getting your iPod plays on last.fm?

Hopefully this will be fixed/improved in the next libgpod release (I specifically hacked on that). If some people in here owning ipod 5g/5.5g are willing to send me the file iPod_Control/Device/Preferences and tell me which timezone their ipod is set to, this would help making sure everything works as expected.

  • this bug is still an issue on 8.10 with my 3G nano... it doesn't seem to bother the spam filter, so it's not a big deal. i just wonder why.

  • I noticed that only scrobbles songs already played on rhythmbox, coz it needs a time to send to last.fm. And it is send with the time when this track was played for the last time on rhythmbox. Am I right?
