This the group for all you linguaphiles out there!
Join and discuss everything related to languages.

Welcome to the group for love and appreciation of languages!

Do you like learning languages?
Do you get excited at the sight of a cool foreign language?
Do you think grammar is fascinating and interesting?
Do you find yourself wishing you had the time to learn more languages just because there are so many cool ones out there?
Do you love fancy words?
Do you love strange writing systems?
Do you think of particularly complex languages as more fun rather than daunting?
Do you think of learning a strange language of which you will probably get little practical use as a cool idea rather than a waste of time?
Do you get inspired to learn a new language whenever you listen to pretty music in that language?
Do you think constructed languages are fun rather than just silly?
Are you able to spend hours at the language section of your local bookstore?
Do you think dictionaries and grammars are interesting books?

If you feel that any of these questions describe you, feel free to join this group! In this group you may be as nerdy as you like.

My mother language is Hungarian. I also speak English, have continued learning German because I don't want to forget it and I'm a beginner of Irish Gaelic.

Lithuanian, English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Sanskrit. For me language isn't a 'tool for communication' but a certain world, a spiderweb of ancient roots, a way to revive something old, primordial.

Hello! I just recently started learning German (I am less than beginner atm). I don't know if I am asking something completely off-topic for this group, but I would like someone to suggest me some nice German bands or singers who sing in German, of course. I listen to almost everything, my favorite genres would be indie rock, indie-pop, electro, melodic rock, folk etc...Please post on my profile, if you have any suggestions, I will be glad! Thank you :)

I've been learning Mandarin, as well as Cantonese (Cantonese is badass btw). I suggest any of you guys that want to find a language partner to sign up for iTalki. There are so many people with different language backgrounds on there it's insane. They even have people that speak Twi and Zulu, it's pretty amazing.

Here's yet another language nerd - this time from Germany, so obviously German is my mother tongue. Sadly, the only other language I can really speak is English. My passive French vocabularly is okay, but I truly suck at actively using it. I also know some basic Japanese (passed JLPT level #4 - which is now #5 - in 2008), and my latest passion is Hebrew, it just sounds so amazing. I self-taught myself the writing system and some basic sentences and cannot wait for my course to begin on September 24! My language career also includes Latin, Italian, and Spanish classes, but apart from Latin (which I had to take for five years) none of them really lasted that long.
