@tkonfm: Well that would be wrong, because the 5th movement is complete opposite of the dark and grim first and second movements :). His doom, destruction and death symphony is the 6th - the 'Tragic'.

7th by Rafael Kubelink! Everyone should make a try.

I was at the Nottingham Royal Centre last night catching the BBC Philharmonic playing Mahler's Sixth. It was utterly brilliant - a superb interpretation. I had goosebumps most of the way through

For example, when we tag the fourth movement of Mahler's first symphony, we can put 'Gustav Mahler' in the Artist field, and perhaps Symphony No. 1 in D major 'Titan' - IV. Sturmisch bewegt for the Track Title. If every member of this group has the same tag for the same movement, I'm pretty sure we will see plenty of Mahler's music in our Top Tracks.

Hmm..should we come up with a universal way to tag Mahler's music so that it will appear in our Top Tracks chart? I mean there are just way too many variations on how people tag classical music. Mahler's outputs are not that many and I'm pretty sure we can come to an agreement on how to tag every single movement of a Mahler's symphony.

Hello all. First Mahler work I ever heard was his 6th. Such a powerful work, and still my favorite in its entirety.

@ulysees, have not heard that version of the 9th. Need to check it out. Right now my favorite is the Ricardo Chaily version with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Christoph Dohnanyi's Mahler 9th is the most phenomenal I've ever heard. Also on the Decca recording is Karl Amadeus Hartmann's beautiful Symphony No.2.

Anybody else here love Gielen's Mahler 5th? :-D So well-played and detailed, a really fine interpretation! I haven't heard any of his other Mahler, but would like to now...

I'll be sure to give one of those a try - thanks! I have the Barbirolli (Berliner) recording and I just can't get into it. Perhaps I should just give it more time
