New album: Volta

  • New album: Volta

If you've been following bjork.com, you already know that Bjork's sixth album, "Volta", will be released on May 4 in Iceland and Ireland and May 7 in North America and the rest of Europe. What does everyone think about a Bjork "hip-hop album"? What are your expectations? I certainly have faith that she will come out just as original and unique as she always has been. I expect something similar to Debut, but a little more eclectic.

well i suppose that with the fact she is working with timbaland, this album may get some radio play, possibly even on top fourty stations. i've heard that it is not so to speak hip-hop, but that is the closest way to classify it. either way i'm excited, she seems to be intent on touring for this album. also, antony of antony and the johnsons is going to be on two songs from the album, and he is quite the musical genius. i am excited to hear what they've done together. i'm sure bjork won't let us down.

  • I absolutely trust Björk's expertise: she would never let her fans down. Guess she's the only artist whose quality we can always forsee. She's been through dance, electronic, minimal and even human-voice-based songs. About her partnership with Timbaland? Well, guess (even by hearing the promos) she's taken his beats to another level =)

I love the new single. i just bought it from iTunes and it is anything but hip hop

Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it (Woody Allen).

It is good. I wouldn't say as good as Medulla, Vespertine or Homogenic, but still very very good.

Volta's very good, I like it. It's energetic album, but I don't like the 3rd track called "The Dull Flame Of Desire".

  • I reckon it's the lyrics which let Volta down. Earth Intruders and Declare Independence are particuarly poor. Shame.

  • it's tribal and fierce. it's like she's told: relentlessly restless.
on my opinion, it seems wiht homogenic in some points.

  • on my opinion, there's poverty in the whole cd. but she WANTED it to be poor.
so it can be very tribal and primitive.

  • I really like it. Earth intruders is gr8. As far as timberland goes, its the best thing hes done.

"Declare Independence" destroys everything, great mix of electronic and power and hardness of punk, very good gradation of tension.

    I think it's great.
The first time I've listened to it (I've already knew Earth Intruders) I thought: WTF? But then I played it again & again and bad impression gone.

It has something in common whith Homogenic and especially Medúlla. Volta is so so humanistic. Try to look at it as a story about human race. Remember Isobel...? That's why it is kinda "primitive" and tribal.

Homogenic is still my favourite, most personal and "real" album but Volta is a consequence in some way.

Besides it's the most political and "horizontal" Björk's album. Declare Independence is the best example.

At the very beginning I though Volta is the worst Björk album but now I cannot get enough of Declare independence, Pneumonia, I see who you are... Mmmm... just perfect!

different her all together, but I love it. it's gonna have the "last album" shadow over it, though, until she makes another one. (fingers crossed)

i'm not really into hip-hop but i like the remix on telegram of "i miss you"...

no one knows were bjork will go with her music except bjork herself and THAT is what makes her as great an artist as she is. she has a unique individual style that makes her music hard to catagorize.

i love her she never ceases to amaze me

i didnt like it as much at first (well i still did in some way, since nothing björk does could ever disappoint me really) but anyway, after hearing the live voltaic versions and seeing all of the music videos i kind of understand the album better.
so of course its nowhere near as good as vespertine or homogenic, but still really good work (and not as poppy as earth intruders might have promised)

  • volta

for me the volta was a turning space, creating new ideas, we know that bjork and shows his affection for his listeners to build a monument in his name in order to admire it, but honestly did not expect after hearing the record 20 times, eh understood all bjork expressive note does not provide lots of love ... completely a rarity

  • Not new anymore
