A group dedicated to one of the most musically productive cities in the world. From black metal to bubblegum pop, you can find it all in this tiny town.
Even if you don't know where Bergen is, you've probably heard how it sounds.
Maybe it's because of it's isolated location, naturally protected from a bombardment of influences, that Bergen produces sounds that seem somewhat leftfield of musical trends. Artists such as Kings of Convenience, Royksopp, Annie, Datatrock and Immortal, have all managed to find fresh, interesting directions in overcrowded, over commericialised times.
It may also be Bergen's landscape that shaped these band's independant approach to the business side of things. People are forced indoors by dark winters and extreme rainfall, forced either into the practice room or into bars. The result of all this is well trainded, stage seasoned bands, who can rely on talent, not hype, to attract attention.
Although Norway is among the richest countries in the world, most of it's wealth is related to the oil and fishing industries. The entertainment industry relies heavily on imports as it's tiny population limits sales and therefore profitabilty, making the country pleasantly devoid of music executives, and the few there are are located in the capital Oslo. Bergen's un-glamourous enviroment contributes to the artists down to earth, hardworking approach, knowing that any breakthrough will come by making great music, real fans and word-of-mouth recommendation.
