Descripción:
A group to provide information about metal to teach and expand it so others can enjoy it more. Just think of it as your very own "Last.fm Encyclopedia of Metal."

Introduction
First of all, what exactly is ? Well, according to Wikipedia, it is "a genre of music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in England and the United States ... the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness." It is a fast-growing genre that is becoming more and more popular each day and this group is to assist that progress by helping people become more informed about metal.

Group Purpose
As the name suggests, this group was created to achieve two common goals - teaching others what they need or want to know about the genre of metal and expanding the genre of metal to others so they can enjoy it themselves and become "metalheads", whether they are experienced listeners of metal or just starting to listen to it.
The group is also here to become what I like to call "The Last.fm Encyclopedia of Metal" because it will be able to provide the information on metal that should be known by any metalhead or future metalhead.

Contributions
I'll be creating the majority of the information about metal in the forums. I don't listen to every genre of metal, so of course I'm not going to know some information about some genres. Therefore, I'm going to need all the help I can get, so come on in and contribute to the forum discussions. These contributions will be greatly appreciated. Read the Contribution Guidelines to see how you can help out.

Also, I want absolutely NO TROLLS roaming the grounds of this group. They are a waste of time and have no purpose but to agitate others. It's one thing to have an opinion, but it's another to start insulting another person about theirs. Thank you.

Genres of Metal
Metal is a very diverse genre of music, so it has to divided into several subgenres to differentiate the differnet syles and types of music. Some of them are fusion genres of metal with another genre, but I will consider them as major genres of metal due to their popularity among metal listeners.

Band of the Week
Here, I'll be adding a new band each week for you to check out. It'll usually be a not-so-popular band, to give you guys someone new to check out. I'll give a short introduction to the band and then write a personal review on what I think of them. After that, you can judge them in whatever way you like, but check them out because that's the point of this group - expanding the genre of metal.

This week I bring you a somewhat new band making their way into the metal scene - The Autumn Offering. *cheering*
The Autumn Offering is a hailing from Florida, the American home of all things metal. When I first heard them about 2 years ago, I was shocked. I never heard of them beforehand, so of course I was biased into believing they were a "so-so" band. But boy was I wrong. They blew me away. The first song I heard was "Embrace The Gutter." Pretty cool name, huh? Anyway, the opening riff was amazing. Then, Dennis Miller began singing with some awesome "metalcore vocals." The lyrics were great, too. Then, I heard a guitar solo. Man, it was a good one - lengthy and full of good "riffage." After the song I looked them up and found more great music from them. They have a distinct sound from other metalcore bands. They use very melodic guitar-playing, nice drumming tempos, and even good clean vocals. I would recommend this band to any metalhead, so go on and listen to them already! I suggest the albums Embrace the Gutter and Fear Will Cast No Shadow.
