  lol, i didn't mean i can play his stuff. I meant I can play that form. I'm not good at guitar. Allan doesn't have formal experience with musical theory. I tried youtubing lessons from him and the way he tries to teach (he's not a teacher, lol) is waaaayy over alot of peoples heads. I'm not pretending I can tour with him, I'm just saying I can sound like him i.e. his shredding out of the box pattern/no pattern improv style.

  Free form jazz shred? what? dude, it's not about speed or noodling, allan's playing is WAY deeped than you thought, please study more and research about what he is doing, he is not playing random things, it even doesn't sound like he were! his lines are awesome. if it were so easy... Please, don't listen to your ego and go and practice for real.

  It's simple and complex. It's free-form jazz shred w/ lots of stream of consciousness, play as crazy as you can with pure emotion, flat fifths, etc. I am still working on clean noodling at 17 nps. That's all I practice.

  I don't know what it is about Allan, but I can't get enough. I'm up to 143 plays for him and it just keeps astounding me. I finally figured out how to play like him so that's all I practice. Oh and ambient guitar!

  New to LastFM! Great Site! Huge Holdsworth fan! The first time I saw Allan live was with Bruford and U.K. in 1978! More recently I was sitting right up front on the Yoshi's DVD. I let some other guy sit in front of me and his is the face you see everytime there is a shot over Chads shoulder, He's the dude wearing the glasses on his head! My little claim to fame is me saying "Were ready now" at the begining of "Looking Glass" This still ranks up there as one of the greatest shows I've had the pleasure to see. I just saw him again a few months back at Yoshi's with Terry Bozzo and Tony Levin. This was one long incredible jam session. It was simply jaw dropping stuff and the most improv sound I've ever seen Holdswotth play. My buddies and I now plan stay for the 10:00 show along with the 8:00 show for shows like this. It only costs $20.00 more and well worth it. He just keeps getting better!!
