The fix for this is two things:

first: close iTunes/Last.fm, then hit windows key + r, and type 'iTunes /regserver' without the quotes. Reboot and try again. If this works, great, if not:
    .

That actually sorted it out for me and I got all the scrobbles from the last 3 days back.
Mighty happy about that, thanks for the help!

last.fm software appears to have stopped scrobbling my ipod, and not for the first time. I'm running OS X, and have all the latest version of iTunes and last.fm but when I synced my iPod - nothing happened.

I'd listened to about 100 or so tracks today, so it's a bit annoying that all that information won't be updated in my profile.

I can't help without logs! Check page 20 of this thread for details on how to upload them.

Fantastic! Glad it worked for you :)

  • Thanks, lgladdy, I've uploaded the logs now.

This is a long thread, and I missed the bit about posting the logs.

I haven't been able to scrobble from my iPod in a while. When I plug it in I leave it connected for a while just in case it's a time issue, but no luck so far. I manually manage my iPod. It's a 30GB video. I'm running Windows Vista. I have iTunes version 7.7.1.11, Last.fm version 1.5.2.38918, and iTunes plugin version 3.0.2.0. I just tried clicking "Scrobble iPod" from Last.fm's "Diagnostics" menu but was getting impatient so I stopped it. I uploaded my logs. Hope you get them.

    Thanks

    Heya,

As above, you're also getting 'RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED'. Follow the instructions in my post immediately above this one, and you should be okay :)

Thanks so much. Your first solution worked and I got all my missing scrobbles.

  • i've tried reinstalling, tried itunes/regserver, tried repairing itunes but nothing seems to be working. it'll scrobble some tracks but then if i play something else it won't automatically do it, i have to start all over and then run the diagnostics and manually scrobbled. is that the best i can hope for or does anyone have any ideas?

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
    iTunes 7.7.1.11
iPod 80GB Classic (firmware version 1.1.2)

    uploaded the logs

Hey Rob - Your logs don't show anything abnormal. iPod is detected (over firewire), and triggers scrobbling after the 5 minute timeout, but when it scrobbles its just not seeing any increased playcount.

Can you play a song on the iPod, make it starts playing the next song, and then resync, wait 10 minutes then upload the twiddly log to me again so i can see what happens when there are songs to scrobble. Your uploaded log suggests it hasn't found any.

You're getting RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED, and so its strange that hitting diagnostics is working.

Are you using any kind of anti-virus or firewall/system protection which could be blocking it?

Could you try iTunes /regserver again for me?

The other possibility is to uninstall iTunes and reinstall it - it won't delete your music (but i'd backup your My Music/iTunes folder, just to keep your library safe).

This'll kick all the services and registration into working. If you'd rather not uninstall it, you could post me the results of 'iPod Diagnostics' here, with the iPod plugged in and we can see if that sheds more light on it (but could very well make me tell you to uninstall/reinstall again)

    again

don't know what's going on, but my ipod (160gb) stopped scrobbling again. I own both a macbook and a macbookpro, it seems to sync and scrobble fine with the macbook, but not with the pro. Recently I had to replace the logical board and since then it has totally stopped scrobbling... any clues?

If you lost scrobbles, the last.fm database must of been corrupted or deleted and rebuilt. If you use time machine, you can jump it the iTunesPlays.db back to your time you last scrobbled. Hopefully the server will detect any duplicates, but you may well get the odd duplicate.

Zom-B.. As far as i can see, everythings going okay. The logs you sent me show that its detecting the iPod, and passing it over to twiddly, and getting the contents of your library, but no play counts have increased, and thus no scrobbles have taken place.

well, for whatever reason, it seems to be working again. perhaps it was because the play count weren't increasing, but i tried with both of my ipods and neither wanted to scrobble before.

    thanks for the help anyways.

That's typical, I suppose. I meant to post this yesterday, but when I synced my ipod yesterday, the tracks were scrobbled. Everything from Monday hasn't thoough, which is a bit annoying given the amount of songs I listened to then.

  • lgladdy, I had another question for you. Should I be having to run iTunes /regserver every time I want to scrobble my iPod? Here is the reason why I ask. After running iTunes /regserver the first time yesterday and restarting, I was able to scrobble, as you probably read in my latest post. I listened to more music on my iPod throughout the day and wanted to see if it would work. I turned my laptop on and tried to scrobble but nothing happened. Then I remembered the second solution you mentioned, and thought I'd try that. I downloaded the iTunes installer and clicked "Repair" After that was done and I restarted, I plugged in my iPod, but nothing. I was about ready to jump back on these forums when I decided to try running iTunes /regserver again just for the hell of it. After restarting, I plugged my iPod in and not even a minute and a half later, the "Confirm Scrobbles" window popped up. I found this to be strange.

You shouldn't, but you might just need to give it more time. Theres a bug in the newest client on both windows and mac which delays scrobbling by upto 5 minutes, and seems to affect most people.

If you do keep having problems, something must be deregistering the iTunes COM server - do you have any kind of security software?

Is there an updated instruction/fix for mac?

I have an iPhone and an iPod touch, both of which have stopped scrobbling. I'm running OSX 10.5.4, iTunes 7.7.1, and last.fm client version 1.5.3.45507.

I get a "Failed to get itunes library contents" with either device. Is this still an open bug or is there a way to fix it? I've skimmed through this forum but can't find a fix that has worked.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

let me know when you have a chance to look at them.
    thanks!

You're also getting 'RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED' which means the iTunes COM server isn't registered properly with windows.

Two easy ways to try and fix it:

First: Try simply closing iTunes and last.fm, then pressing Windows Key + R, then typing 'iTunes /regserver' into that dialog box. Reboot and try again.

If that doesn't work, download the iTunes installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download and hit 'repair' when you run it :) Reboot, and you should be fine, and any missing scrobbles -should- appear.

tried both, and still same problem.
will try one more time and let you know what happens...

    STILL nothing.
Running 'iTunes /regserver' fixed my Secure link to iTunes Store.
still no scrobbles showing up after doing this.
Tried to "repair" iTunes, but again, no scrobbles showing up.

    what next?

ok, so ive been pouring over the threads in the forum and i have tried a few fixes but still cant get my ipod to scrobble.

    running:

newest version of itunes / last.fm
    have 8g touch

last.fm will pop up when i connect my ipod and say "scrobbling ipod" then say that "no scrobbles found". when i ran diagnostics and tried to force scrobbling it says "twiddling device: UNKOWN" and under options - ipod it says "diagnostic/UNKOWN/iphone"

i tried to run itunes /regserver then reboot and that didnt work... also tried to repair itunes...

The failed to get ITunes Library Content is a last.fm error message, and not the response from applescript. Check your twiddly log for the full error, or upload them to me (see page 20 of this thread)

    Nope, everything is fine there.

It's a bit baffling to me now, and shows theres obviously something deeper.

Email the logs and output from iPod Diagnostics to client@last.fm, say you're getting the RPC_E_CALL_REJECTED message and reregistering the come manually and reinstalling iTunes hasn't helped.

You might also want to ask what language they use to access the COM - it could be that its broken there, and you need to redownload the installer to freshener it all up from Microsoft, if its VBScript or JScript something. - But you'd probably have problems with other applications in that case, too.

Just a question, and I wonder if anyone else has this problem...I could be completely clutching at straws here..

I tend to have most problems scrobbling my Ipod when I am trying to scrobble tracks that I have recently added to the Ipod. For example - Not long ago I added an album, and listened to it for the first time, the following day on the way home from work...yet when I went to scrobble my Ipod plays, these new songs didnt feature on the list of scrobbles to submit.....

The same thing happened not long ago...with another album I added. Could be a co-incidence, but I was wondering if there was something in the script that made it easier to scrobble played songs, once the play count is above zero on Itunes?
