I've had this problem for quite a while now. I tried reinstalling the software multiple times, downgrading, installing iScrobbler, etc, but nothing worked. When I went into the diagnostics I ran into tons of errors. But setting it to automatic and then back to manual fixed it. I still get the errors in the diagnostics, but the scrobbling is working. So if nothing has worked for you, try what dad_gad said.

My iPod scrobbling hasn't been working for a while.

When I try what dad gad said, I have no scrobbling ipod tab in the diagnostics. Do I need iScrobbler for it to work?

Since I installed the new Itunes version, it dectected my Ipod. And it automatically scrobbles my plays. :)

OK, add me to the list frustrated iPod Scrobblers as I've been having intermittent problems too. Sometimes it works fine but I frequently see either "No iPod Library Found" or "No tracks scrobbled" messages, when I know I've got a days plays waiting to be submitted.

Tried manually Scrobbling via the Diagnostics window but with little joy, just endless COM error messages. Left it running the other night and it took 2 hours 52 minutes to complete, (with LastFM.exe taking 99% CPU the whole f* time!!!), rebooted, restarted iTunes, reconnected my iPod and it worked.

On other occasions though that process has either failed completely, only submitted about half the tracks I've played or resubmitted tracks that have already been Scrobbled, giving me duplicate entries in my recent tracks list.
Last week it tried to resubmit about two months worth of iPod plays at once even though only the last 20 tracks were new and needed submitting (I didn't actually hit the Scrobble button that time.) All very flaky and very annoying.

I'm running a "manual scrobble" at the moment and it looks like it's going through my entire library one track at a time yet again, giving out "COM:error" messages, which I expect means it'll take three hours to complete and may or may not actually scrobble today's tracks at the end of it. In the meantime my PC is virtually unusable as the CPU is flat out running LastFM.exe again!! so I'm going to close the Diagnostics window and kill it off.

Couple of questions:
1) How does the LastFM database handle duplicate submissions? I definitely have a few tracks in my recently played list that are shown twice with the same timestamp.

2) My iTunes library is pretty big (over 30,000 tracks) and I wondered if that was causing/adding to the problems? If iTunes has been up and running for a while before I connect my iPod I seem to be "slightly" less likely to encounter problems Scrobbling... Is there a LastFM process that runs on iTunes startup that needs to complete before it can cope with the iPod?

3) It seems quite a few people are having problems with iPod Scrobbling: Is this issue being looked into by the LastFM software developers and can we expect a fix (and hopefully soon)?

I could scrobble my iPod yesterday, but after upgrading to the newest version of iTunes I can't anymore.

ive had a problem scrobbling for so long. i downgraded and it scrobbled properly about every other time. so now i finally upgraded and nothing comes up at all. it doesnt scrobble or say 'your ipod has nothing new to scrobble.' and i tried scrobbling from that ipod scrobbling diagnostics and nothing actually scrobbled even though it says it did. something needs to be done.

this is so damn frustrating.

could it actually be that it now only scrobbles the music thats on your hard drive and not the songs that are only on your ipod? last time it worked was ages ago.

And just for the kicks - I've purged all Last.fm preferences in ~/Library/, and walked through the configuration wizard once more. Same thing - ipod is on the list, no user gets associated with it.

...okay, so I've used plutil to convert ~/Library/fm.last.Last.fm.plist to xml, and entered my username in proper (?) place. I get more reaction from the client, but still no scrobble:

The last.fm client is simply not scrobbling iPod tracks. They need to fix this, or stop claiming that iPod scrobbles are supported when they're not. I've tried the various techniques suggested on this thread (which I shouldn't have to do) and none of them work.

If they said iPod scrobbles don't work that would be one thing, but claiming something and not delivering it is misleading and dishonest. Sort it out, last.fm.

This seems to have worked! my iPod is now showing up in Tools as well (as unknown, but I'll take it ;) ) Thanks!!

i still have to make a playlist of the things i listened to on my ipod and play them at night cause apparently it won't scrobble files that aren't on the hard drive anymore like it did before.
as i said in another thread i use flac files and encode them to mp4s for my ipod. i delete those mp4s after they transferred to my ipod because obviously its taking too much disk space to keep them. and yes im sure it worked before. with the official plug-in as well as with the windows iscrobbler version.
