Thanks very much. I am getting really excited. I am now in the right directory. But I get the reply: Error opening logfile "lfmCOL.log" : Permission denied
Any idea please? I feel I am near...
Maybe helpful - lfmCOL.pl writes two files:
    - a detailed logfile (plain text)
    - a file with the requested data (utf8, XML)
Location of both files: same directory as lfmCOL.pl
That means you need write access to that directory.

  • lastexport.py by lilbre.fm

lastexport.py by the libre.fm team does also a good job.

585 pages = 29196 tracks (recently listened tracks) were exported into a 2.6 MB txt file
    that contains:
date trackname artistname albumname trackmbid artistmbid albummbid

It failed a few times, but with copy (win), cat (linux) you can concentate the output files:

This lets you restart the export at page 400 into output2.txt:
    python ./lastexport.py -u Erkan-Yilmaz --outfile output2.txt --page 400

    Have fun!

    short feedback on lfmCOL.pl:

for 139 library pages (ca. 2500 artists) I got a 5.3 MB xml file with:
    perl lfmCOL.pl -xmlfile=Erkan.xml method=library.getTracks user=Erkan-Yilmaz

    perceived problems so far:

    1. missing packages at first start:
    Can't locate XML/Simple.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at lfmCOL.pl line 52.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at lfmCOL.pl line 52.

solvable with installing missing package: perl -MCPAN -e 'install XML::Simple'

    2. not complete library exported (?)
atm I have 144 pages, but the tool just read 139
I guess this may be due to a database not being yet synced? must check

    test system:
    download version: lfmCOL.pl - Generic last.fm Data Collector (last.fm -> xml), Rel. 0.4.0 - 2010-02-10
    Debian 5.0.5 (lenny64)
    perl 5.10.0

  • we want to be able to export everything.

    *bangs head against wall*

Easiest (non-technical) way is get an account (free) at http://lastfm.shikaka.net (part of Extra Stats ftw!) and have it update your stats (when the Last.fm servers are working again). This might take a while if you have a large library.

After that export either your artists or tracks as a tsv-file, import in either Excel or OpenOffice as a UTF8 format (for all of those ë-, á-characters). If you use OpenOffice rename the extension from TSV to CSV otherwise it won't import.

Anyway to do this export easily?

  • last.fm playback history export program

I have just published a java program that can get your playback history from last.fm, although you will need to update the program so that it actually does anything with the data, now it just displays it in the console. Feel free to use it or let me know how I can help further.

got the lastscrape 0.0.6, it makes good list of all plays, but how can i grab just artists list?

edit - just import txt to excel and magic!!!

  • (I mentioned above the lastexport.py)

Here are some figures on how much time it takes:
for ca. 1500-1700 tracks it takes 1 min to export

Anyone figures on the other tools?
