Privacy Controls - Blocking chart views

There are privacy controls that have the functionality to limit showing your shoutbox and event activity to friends or people you allow access.
Its even possible to eliminate the real time feed from view.

However this exercise is futile if you don't want certain people or the public viewing your page. Anyone can still view your charts.
Would it not be possible to use part of the data/programming utilised from the privacy controls in order to make this an option?

I want to continue scrobbling and monitoring my plays, I just wish they weren't so accessible to anybody. I doubt incorporating this feature would cause a negative effect to the overall nature of the site. The majority of people are content to display their taste. I just think personally I would appreciate the option.

Perhaps there are others who feel the same...Further thoughts?

Actually, I came here to put similar 'request', but mine is about whole-profile privacy, so I'll white it in "Your ideas for new community features" thread. Any pro-privacy option would be great. At some point it becomes a necessity.

contra to the site's "ethos" imo...

"I don't want to believe, I want to know"

no, i wouldn't like to see this implemented at all. i agree with dankine above ^

  • You're correct Dankine. This notion does go against the ethos of the site. However me and gloomydoom etc are quite obviously representing a very small proportion of the site community. However that shouldn't diminish our right to our own privacy. Data displayed here I consider to be quite invasive, I should be allowed to choose what I share and to whom.

If you are worried about the possible negative effect on the social or sharing aspects last fm advocates. Taste comparisons with users can continue to be made through the bars, neighbours, friends and events. Socially you can accept or decline invitations.

what I am suggesting is the option of displaying full profiles through a friend only field. I am not suggesting this become compulsory to everyone like Facebook at all.
