bug report: anyone fixing the forum search?

it's been down for over a day now, you know.

    you do know, right?

there are some things pngs can't fix. for everything else, there's pngoptimizer.
  • We're already looking into this, yes; sorry it isn't working at the moment.

  • bump

Edit: Sorry, I was bumping for other users to be more likely to see it. I know at least one user who posted a new thread because he didn't find what he was looking for with search (and thought it wasn't a known issue). I thought if people see this thread it could prevent more unnecessary threads about this and other problems. This thread lets people know they have to browse through the forum instead of depending on the search (for now).

  • What are you bumping for? The Staff have acknowledged they are looking into it, I'm sure there will be a response once it is fixed, or you will notice it is fixed.

It's not down anymore, but it's buggy:

    1. If i do a search with Advanced Search Options and then click on "Newest First" for the search results then the advanced search options are disabled!

    2. Why are there postings from user groups listed too in the search results? I like to search in user group postings but when i am doing a search in the Last.fm forums the results should only contain forum postings from the Support/Community/Development forums!

    3. Display problems:

  • It did exactly as akrde reported when I tried it.

The overlapping and misplaced parts are appearing on other pages in the forum as well, not just the search.

How long has that "Advanced Search Options" been appearing there the way it now is? I've never used that before. I always used the search box within a given forum.

    Dear Last.HQ,

while fixing the forum search bugs, could you please add an additional filter for showing the postings created by oneself only?

If search term is blank when using this filter than show ALL postings ever created by this user, otherwise show only postings created by this user which matches to the search term.

    Thank you!!!

    Another issue:

In the search results there is no way to go directly to the postings permalinks, you can only go to the start of the whole thread. If this thread has several pages then you have to go page by page to find the posting shown on the search results page...

Why are the search results restricted to end of August 2008? Can't find older postings in the search results when clicking on "Oldest first", that's a big disadvantage...

Any news about that? And when will all the search bugs be fixed, searching is a pain at the moment...!

  • The forum search is limited to postings which are a few months old and not all, as if all were in the index, the search would it be very slow and eventually unusable.

Also, postings older than that should have been dealt with, and it's not that good really if people find an old, similar topic, but really unrelated as most of the time out-dated thread in the search and start posting in it; there have been people digging out what they thought was their threads from 2006 all the time.

How many months back can we do a forum search? What if the thread i am searching for is a few days older than this restriction? Then it is not necessarly outdated...

And similar huge forums allow full search back to the first threads too, and it is fast! So why should this not be possible on Last.fm too? Should be an easy task for database designers...

Again, a time restricted search is not very useful and additional important search parameters are still missing!

I just searched for 'tags' and for 'search'... no results except irrelevant FAQ both times... fortunately I found the right thread (both times) by scanning the topic list visually.
