Having Problems with Winamp or Windows Media Player plugins? READ THIS FIRST!

People... I have this problem since, from now and then. Since last night I had nog updates, but since now it is all submitted and looks working again. Please consider the fact that it could also be something with the slow Slam.fm website. Give it a change!

But for some of us this has been going on since -before- the site merging. And I know on my end there are no temporary updates, I've done nothing but cache for more than a week now.

EDIT: Plus it's not just WMP and winamp, I can't get iTunes to submit either.

Well it seems like all my cached files went through.. I'm not sure if it's something I did....

I did go to internet options > connections. and then I clicked on Use A Proxy server, although I didn't type anything into the address and ports fields. Just left them blank.

I'm not sure if thats what fixed the problem but it seems to be working now.. So I'll just let it be.

  • Codes in log file problem

I'm using WMP10 and since the switch over the other day, every so often my plugin can't submit, so when that happens I look in the log file and it has that same HTML garbage in it.

I was quiting WMP and going into the log and deleting that stuff, saving the file, then restarting WMP and it would always then submit the cache.

Just now I was having the same problem again for the nth time, so I tried just closing down WMP and restarting it. Bingo, that's all it needed. It submitted the cache, but it's annoying, to have to shut down the player to get it to submit. It's not doing this most of the time, just sometimes, and often enough for it to be annoying. As long as I keep playing tracks when this is happening, it keeps racking up the HTML in the cache and not submitting, as far as I know, since I know I've interfered every time I've figured out that it wasn't sending the tracks. :)

I have plugin version 1.1.9 for WMP btw.

It never did that before the new site was unveiled.

Clicking "quote" on a page in this forum doesn't work unless that post you are quoting is on the same page as the reply box.

Also did try copying the post I wanted to quote and put it into the quote box that shows up when you click quote in the reply box. It didn't post with my reply. Doesn't matter, my subject is clear enough due to Title and content, I hope ;)

    It works

    many thankx to drmrx!

with the new 1.1.9 beta version all tracks are submitted. got the same problem as many others with the new site, winamp and the 1.1.8 plugin (always unreadable).
over 200 titles cached and immediately submitted with the new plugin set to general.

this was important to as i use a pc with winamp at home and a mac with itunes at work. so, if the mac transmitted titels i think there could be a problem with the winamp-titels as they are not so up to date as the cached file from the pc.

and it even worked to backup the srobbler log and cache, uninstall the 1.1.8, install the new plugin and restore the backuped cache and log.

    greets from hannover

    Hmm, I don't suppose there's a 1.1.9 WMP plug-in as well?

There is. I know, I have it [1.1.9 WMP]installed. The plugin is on another site ... think, think, think, [pooh bear] ... but I can't recall where. It was easily findable in the OLD forum, don't know about this current model.

just in case it helps anyone to know this - i've been having problems with the winamp 1.1.9 beta plugin for a few months, my cached files refuse to submit and my log file clogs up with html when it attempts to connect to the servers. some people seem to be able to just close and re-open winamp and this fixes itself, but i've never been able to get that to happen.

for me, i've found that i need to close winamp, and then actually remove my cache file from the plugins directory (the file is called audioscrobbler.99.cache), then reload winamp and submit a song, then close winamp, replace my cache file and restart winamp again. my songs will submit fine then (including my cache) - until inevitably the plugin fails to handshake at some stage, and then i'm at square one. from something i read from russ on the old forums, i think this has something to do with the plugin looking at the wrong server/s and not being smart enough to go looking for the right one... and it won't really be 'fixed' until the plugin is updated. that was the impression i got anyway.

Well, my compter automatically restarted tonight, and it looks like WMP managed to submit some songs; not sure how many, but there's still a fair amount of played songs left in the cache, and it still says UNREADABLE.

    That's exactly my problem too

This world would be a lonely place, without the one who puts a smile on your face...

Maybe you are behind a proxy.

To check this, open Internet Explorer, go in

    Tools > Internet Options

    then Connection > LAN Settings

Copy the fields "address" and "port" to audioscrobbler config if needed.

What exactly does that last step mean?? I have iTunes and it hasn't been working for MONTHS... maybe this is the problem? But I don't really understand...

I really don't see a reason to continue using this site if the only music that is showing up is from the lastfm player. I have not been able to submit any songs since the changeover from Winamp at all. And I have tried everything suggested.

    5708.55908/13/2005 22:04:48CScrobbler::ParseReponseERROR - Response was invalid
5708.57908/13/2005 22:04:48CScrobbler::ThreadCallbackERROR - ReqID 47, Last response from the server was unreadable

over and over and over and over.

Surely there is someone with smarts enough that works for lastfm that can work on the plug-in. Unless the end result is that we can only use the lastfm player to submit songs.

I've had all sorts of problems the past few weeks with both v1.1.8 and v1.1.9 for Winamp. They work for awhile, then start getting weird responses with html in them and other errors.

All I do now is close Winamp, reinstall the Media Library version of v1.1.8, restart and it submits all the songs from the cache and works for a little while.

Then it happens again, and I repeat. Hopefully someone can resolve all of this sooner than later.

My Winamp plugin seemed to be working fine up until today, now the "Last Response" says Unreadable.

I have the same problem as everyone else. Songs caches, Last Response is "Unreadable". I have reinstalled the plugin (Winamp Plugin 1.1.9), restarted my player and all that, still no luck. Sometimes i get lucky though and it submits a few songs and then it's back to "Unreadable".

Are there no authors or tech support guys for the plugin here to help us out?

    My system:

P4 3,2 Ghz, 1024RAM, WIN XP Home Edition SP2, 4/1Mb internet connection with a D-Link DI604 broadband router between my computer and the www. No proxies or anything.

Could the router be the problem?

    Winamp Plugin

Same issue here. My iTunes plugin works just fine, but nothing will get through with Winamp. I've built up quite a cache (433 songs), but it never handshakes:

    Always that.
