Celebrating the life of DJ John Peel (30th August 1939-25th October 2004), this event marks 10 years since the great man died.
Subway Sect first played at the 100 Club Punk Festival in 1976 and recorded two Peel sessions. Vic Godard continued making music throughout the decades. Recent LP, '30 Odd Years' with influences from northern soul to punk has received great reviews. Line-up includes Vic Godard, Mark Braby, Kev Younger, Yusuf Blayachi & Ian Holford (The Sexual Objects/Nectarine No.9).
Formed in 1977, The Cravats recorded four Peel sessions, aswell as two more when they morphed into The Very Things. Still fronted by The Shend, original sax player Svor Naan plus Viscount Biscuits, Joe 91 and Rampton Garstang.
"The Shend makes an engaging frontman, like a gigantic character out of a long lost black and white movie intoning his black humour laced songs of paranoia and confusion as the band continue their strange and off the wall trip around them building up the seething oddness"- John Robb, Louder Than War. 2011
West London garage group The Fallen Leaves, featuring former members of Subway Sect, started up the same year Peelie died and we're sure he would've loved them. They've made three LPs, gigged around the UK, Europe and USA. Don't miss them if you're a Billy Childish or Subway Sect fan.
Compere for the night will be Lee McFadden (Alternative TV).
