Originally released in 1995 to widespread critical praise, Wrecking Ball won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album the following year. The album represented a new direction for Country Music Hall of Fame star Emmylou Harris and was also a pivotal moment at the time for an emerging alternative country scene.
Almost twenty years later, the love for the album and its ‘unvarnished, otherworldly’ (Rolling Stone) songs written by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Earle, and other lesser-known artists is still strong; as it is for Emmylou Harris, who has just won her 13th Grammy this year for her collaborative album with longtime friend and colleague Rodney Crowell, Old Yellow Moon.
Nonesuch is reissuing Wrecking Ball in a re-mastered version on 7 April and to celebrate Harris embarks on an international tour with producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Willie Nelson) and their band, stopping in London for two nights only.
Emmylou Harris is also performing at the Barbican on the 25th May
